What is this spot on a AIAT bolt face?

Swapping barrels on my relatively new (sub 600rds) AIAT this morning and noticed this spot on the face of one of the bolt lugs? It looks like someone had hit it with a roll pin punch. It has transferred the shape of the spot to the barrel but there is no burr on the bolt or barrel. It is not raised or anything and doesn’t snag a fingernail or razor blade on either.

I'm absolutely no gunsmith so I will withhold any comment...not my expertise.

But is that an AI barrel? Just wondering about the gouge in the receiver side thread relief. I can't imagine it doing any harm but isn't that a bit sloppy?

I too am interested in what the real experts on this board have to say.

Cheers

@spife7980 nailed it.
Probably a hardness testing mark?

So I got the bright idea to call Mile High Shooting. I spoke with Adam, and he said its from hardness testing. He also said that there is .010” gap between the breach and bolt face, that is taken up by a case when firing. But when dryfiring there is nothing there to take up that space and the bolt face contacts the breech face when dryfired. He said to not worry about it at all.

It is not a factory AI barrel, it’s a 18” Proof Carbon that was done by a shop on the east coast that I won’t name. It came on the rifle when I bought it. It shoots great, but I noticed it also, I didn’t notice any problems from it inside the receiver.

I did just get a new 26” factory barrel from Euro, and the work on it is cleaner.
