The MSM has been specifically. It talking about this… and IMHO if going to find a way to blame it on Trump!

October Surprise might well be product shortages… gas shortages… all kinds of lovely disruptions including layoffs and work stops at factories they cannot get parts.

Just saying… make sure you have plenty of “everything”

In my opinion it's not going to happen. Too close to the election and the government will kick in some money(back door so the taxpayers don't know) and they will claim they saved the economy. Something Trump could never do.

Or they let it happen and the MSM makes an all out effort to blame Trump and a few “more” stupid sheep buy it.

Everything is on Harris watch… yet the media are treating her as the outsider reform candidate!

Unreal…

Where's mayor Pete?? Doesn't this fall into his department? Along with the department of labor?

Yeah... it is. So why is be being told to stand down?

Wonder what sorts of stuff will get snuck into USA while 'port facilities' are in chaos? You know... for an epic October Surprise that will allow, say, an election to be cancelled or postponed?

Just wondering?

I hope not.

Buying more ammo is part of the solution.

IIRC during 2021 COVID bullshit they were threatening a strike . Biden admin stepped in and gave FED funds to stop it . This is the Unions paying back the favor . Unions support Dems and Dems are loosing . Even a few economists have said it looks like the left is burning the economy down . Just leavin a nice little Fuck You for the American People and Trump .

Scuttle butt is the management is supporting Harris but rank and file are for trump

Besides more money, the Longshoremans union wants a total ban on any automation of any type. Perhaps it's a nice thought to believe modern progress can somehow be halted, but unfortunately a nation must remain competitive with it's peers.

They are simply trying to prolong the inevitable with automation. It's coming whether we like it or not. I can't blame companies for going that route since so many people aren't willing to work or show up regularly.

Perhaps the longshoremen are gambling that a Democratic administration won't be willing to order them to go back to work so close to the election? Or maybe they are hoping the Feds will kick in enough money to ease the transition to more automation at the ports.

I don't think this is going to end well for the longshoremen.

Robots don’t pay union dues…
They also don't need smoke breaks or vacations, don't need maternity leave, won't bitch about being cold...
In a way, they do need sick days. Regular maintenance and it's not like we are talking about that Boston Dynamics walking dog high tech shit all the way either. We are looking at automated cranes, trucks, lifts...relatively simple, low tech machines with RFID readers and a few load and proximity sensors, some hydraulics and some servos.

Guy on another forum who is a longshoreman at one of these ports says they can unload 2 containers to every automated ports single container. It might have been more than 2 I would have to go back and look. And then he said the automated trucks are also slow and things get lost very easily. Their ports have containers on the road in ~48 hours. He said the automated ports take 3-5 days in general.

He wasnt against automation completely. He said the automated gates for the trucks work far better than the truckers having to go into an office and sign in and out. Much more productive.

He was explaining the negotiations and that they had actually finished and agreed on everything with the local companies, it was the big shippers that wouldnt agree. The same shippers that made 50 billion PROFIT between 22 and 23. The same shippers that pay their workers on the boats like 10 bucks an hour. The shippers that all use flag of convenience to make the most money and pay people the least. So none of that is shocking to me. Flag of convenience is horrible for that industry. My industry was trying it and it turned out really poorly and I dont think anybody is doing it anymore.

you lost me at ten bucks an hour

I spent last 7 years of my career "automating" paper mills - issue is not management displacing workers it is manufacturing survival as cannot replace workers as they retire.

How much does a longshoreman make?

They can order them back and instead of doing 30 containers an hour they will do 1. Shits already backed up. They will get what they are asking for or the demo are doing to look even dumber right before the election. I hope biden prolongs this just as a fuck you to Harris.

I remember when Reagan put a stop to shenanigans with the Air Traffic Controllers union.
Biden could absolutely do the same in the name of national security. But he won't.
This is retarded talk.

A. The ATC were federal employees
B. There was a massive trained force of military ATC during cold war that were used as a stop gap.

You aren't putting some non trained idiot in charge of unloading hundreds of millions of product from a ship with 20k cans on it.

It's good money but they also have to deal with layoffs , furlough and live in the most expensive parts of the nation.

The port workers in Baltimore were laid off when the key bridge fell. The ILA union actually was able to repurpose some covid funding they had to keep them from loosing their houses. Biden and the gov didn't do jack shit for the workers.

All it does is shift the cost from a NON us company to the taxpayers. When these guys loose their jobs they become welfare recipients or prisoners. It's much better to pay them to work than pay them not to work. Would you rather the profits be sent overseas to our enemies or stay in the zuS economy circulating as they buy houses, cars, goods, paybtaxes..ect.

Well, I was wrong. The strike has begun. So what are the theories now?
Wait a week or two and step in to solve the potential crisis?
The longer it lasts the better it is for us. It's a big fuck you to the democrats who can't really do anything without pissing off their voters right before an election. Alienate tens of millions of union members as strike busters or piss off everyone as people are laid off and shelves go bare.

Imo the short term pain is worth it if it helps T$ get elected.

I didn't think of Biden letting the strike go on as "fuck you" to all the other Democrats who forced him out. A complete halt to east coast shipping traffic would go a long way towards making sure Kamala doesn't win the election. Particularly as this is going to hit most of the swing state's economies pretty hard.

Looks like we are going to see just how bitter Joe is about being forced out.

Union longshoremen are fucking lazy scum. American port workers are the most expensive and least productive port workers on the planet. They prove their shit commie, left wing asshole leaders are lying sacks of shit by asking for an 80% pay raise.

We are supposed to believe there is no inflation and prices are lower than Trump's years and these cunts want an 80% pay raise.

Fuck communism and fuck every Kamaltoe voting asshole in the country. I'm voting for robots.

Sounds a little low
Sounds extremely low, years and years ago longshoremen at the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach were clearing 6 figures. In fact, I remember reading a story that one of the union lawyers quite being a lawyer and went to work as a dockworker as he said the pay was better and the hours were less.

Not even Joe but Jill. She has been running the show the last couple years and was happy with potato head shitting his pants so she could run the country. Harris and the dem cabal pushed her out so it's a nice fuck you right back.

When your enemies are fighting...just sit back and enjoy.
