Leupold fucking suck.
So, for those keeping score, I bought one Mark4HD 8-32x56 PR3 where the turret cap markings didn't line up precisely with the witness mark on its erector housing and which also had sloppy-feeling turrets that I didn't like, AFAIK everything else about it was ok, but those problems were annoying to me since I pretty much had to dial everything twice and count clicks before taking a shot. I ended up selling that one in the PX (at a few hundred dollars loss), and AFAIK the new owner is happy (they did get a like-new mostly great scope at a killer deal after all). That was my first one.
About a month later, I bought another one, same model, 8-32x56 PR3 MIL, only with this one, not only did the turret cap markings not line up with the witness marking on the erector housing (again), but it also didn't track correctly, falling off and out of whack somewhere ~6 MIls on its dial... I probably wouldn't have caught it if I didn't belong to a club that goes out to 1000+ yards and hadn't been shooting the same load/dope for a while. With this one, I decided to send it back to Leupold for repair or replacement and found out the hard way that all the awful stories I'd heard about their CS were true. I had to twist their arm to get them to pay for shipping it in (even though it was defective out of the box) and then I had to wait 4+ weeks for them to test and figure out the scope was defective (like I said it was, they assume the customer is always wrong apparently), and another 3+ weeks for them to finally send me out a brand-new replacement scope. Remember/consider that these are mid-price-point scopes, and if I was a guy who was just starting out in the sport and didn't have access or the funds for another scope, I wouldn't have been able to shoot and the rest of my fancy long-range rifle setup would've been collecting dust for all that time.
I finally got a brand-new-in-the-plastic replacement scope... but at this point, I'd already gone back to running a Razor G3 like I had for 1+ year before deciding to try the Mark 4HD, and decided that I was sick of pulling/mounting scopes and then burning rounds re-zeroing, so I decided to sell it in the PX (at another few hundred dollars loss) rather than take another chance on Leupold.
Well, the new owner got the brand-new scope and already found a defect when taking it out of the box and before mounting it. The reticle is canted in the tube and out of level with the scope body. He said he's going to see whether or not it bothers him and seems to be ok with it (as long as there aren't any more surprises), but that fucking sucks. I won't be surprised in the least if he ends up having to send it in to be made right or to get a replacement.
I still think the PR3 MIL reticle kicks ass and that the glass on the Mark4HDs is great for the money, but, only if Leupold can ever figure out how to get them into a scope one can actually use without having to send back once or more times, and I have zero faith in them.
So, 3 units. 3 duds. Shitty QC. Shitty CS. Caveat emptor.
