Hey, I would love to see the whole Bureau measure up to the standard that they portray themselves in Hollywood. I will say, having been there, that the FBI Lab is a unique and amazing facility and one designed to help any agency, no matter how small with some amazing science and technology. Whatever happens with the rest of the organization, the Lab is an amazing resource. It could be stood up on its own as an entity… and probably should be. There to serve the whole community (which it technically does today).
And I really do want them to succeed. To purge the politics and handle the things that, in principle, the Bureau is supposed to handle. Professionally. Not as some kind of Praetorian Guard which, for those who know history, was all about being the kingmakers… not just protecting Rome. That group of “guards” did untold damage to the Roman Empire.
But historical references aside… that is a tall order and a lot of damage has been done. Not just in the last 4 years or 16… or 25… but all the way back to Hoover and his, shall we say, methods.
Methinks they have one last chance… and I hope Patel doesn’t get captured by the system… but that he instead dismantles it with extreme ruthlessness and rebuilds it as an organization that is worthy of our respect… not our disdain and disgust.

In "Starship Troopers" (the book,) serving the country was a requirement to be eligible to vote. And while you were in the military, you could not vote. Only until after you exited service.
