What steel is he using these days for his 5R's?
I just bought a Ruger Precision Rifle in .308, and they all come with an in-house Ruger manufactured 5-
R CHF 1/10" 4140 steel. Not stainless like Remington made. Havn't shot it yet to see how nice it is.

Heads up that there are more fake M24 receivers on Gunbroker, listed by Bryant Ridge Co.:

Two of them have already sold for $2000 and $1500 plus:

I have sent messages to Bryant Ridge Co. and will see if they respond.

These are the ones that we discussed last year that were apparently modified with the addition of fake M24 and US markings by PTG.

Hopefully no one here has been burned.

Update 12/12/24: Good news! A few hours ago, I got an email reply from the owner of Bryant Ridge Co. thanking me for the heads up. He had already been in contact with Gunbroker asking them to take the auctions down. These receivers were consigned. He asked me for some further specifics so he can tell the consignor why they cannot sell them.

Its going to sound stupid, but I am not sure. I just told them I wanted a repro barrel. I may live to regret it lol. Anyone got a photo of the original markings on the early rock barrels?

I picked up my m24 from red bull armory a few weeks ago, I will have to get some better shots with the deployment case and accessories. Original c prefix m24 receiver, everything is original parts, barrel is a newer Remington address m24 barrel. Original scope rail, surplus ultra scope and rings. Redfield bases are original and came with the stock.

Did they ever respond?

I called them this morning and the woman on the line "had no idea about the product". When I asked about speaking to someone else, I was sent to a voicemail box that was full.

In a way I’m thankful that isn’t my junk drawer. The burden of having so many builds waiting for completion…… 😂
I have Around 40 uncompleted builds, this will be the new year of trying to complete builds, I got a good start, red bull armory finished 8 of my bolt action rifles, the m14s and ar stuff is on me lol. Hopefully that drawer will start looking lighter!

And I thought my 5 in progress were bad. You finished more than I even have in progress, ha.

Just because I don’t know. These are US marked. Were M24 receivers ever US marked? I know these are fakes

Is this as far in as the length of pull goes on the HS Precision stocks? It looks like it should go in more but the knob is bottomed out. I can’t get the eye relief I need with it this far out. Thanks.

Nope, that’s all she wrote. Cheekpiece hardware bottoms it out. Only option is to take cut the pad rods and screw short enough to go in far enough for your lop. I did it on my other stock.

No it won't since you have either a PST-13 or 26 that has the cheek riser. The pillars that raise the cheek rest block the length of pull pillars.

Thanks gents! I think I got her figured out. Cheek rest was too high making me scrunch my neck back to get a good picture. Ended up needing a little more LOP not less.

USMC rifle M40 no. 6257227 is documented by Peter Senich in his book The One-Round War on pg. 259. It was shipped to Sionics Inc. in December 1969, and is pictured with a threaded bbl & Sionics Model M14SS-1 suppressor.

The CMP auction rifle currently being discussed is no. 6257272. It has a short-action HS Precision M24 stock.

cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail.asp?id=8509&n=Remington-Model-700-Serial-Number-6257272

This may have been a Trophy Match award rifle presented to a member of the USMC rifle team circa 1981 (Senich pg. 262) but unsure how it wound up in the CMP auction.

Interesting batch of serial #'s. These are $30k+ rigs

What book is that?

C prefix M24 receivers were U.S. marked, as well as a few E prefix receivers. After that the use of US markings was ended. Later M24 receivers including G prefix and RR prefix were not U.S. marked.
Thank you ODCMP for posting this. I own an E-prefix that is U.S. engraved, bbl date coded WB, 7.62 NATO mk'd bbl, and Remington mk'd buttpad. Also have a photograph of an M24 that was displayed at Remingtons vendor booth during MILIPOL Paris France, bbl similiarly date coded WB, with U.S. engraving that is within 150 serial numbers sequence above mine.

Years ago, I contacted Remington to obtain their new operators manual with the black cover. They required my serial # to verify if it was an actual M24, and after confirming it, sent one.

I know you guys at CMP have all the documentation for US issued firearms, and are experts on these things. Can you offer any info that could verify my rifles provenance?

Have you run an Army FOIA request on your receiver serial number? All of the US marked M24 serial numbers that I have run have come back with good information. I think that would be the best and quickest way to confirm.

I don't remember the CMP selling or auctioning any M24 rifles or receivers. Even if they did, since they are all post 1975, the FOIA should show it before being sent to the CMP.

(I'm not with the CMP by the way, I just started using the name on their forum in 2009 when they changed the forum software and wouldn't allow my old username.)

I think I tried the FOIA. But got no reply back. However, believe the post here that described the process had some kind of typo in the email addy. Do you know the website, or what page of this thread it was posted on?

I've read many of your posts here, and always very informative, so a compliment to you assuming a connection with CMP!
As the Japanese say, Omonzuru!

eta: Mine was not sold through any .gov connection

Thanks for the comments. I would submit it again; they always respond even if they find no results.

Earlier this year they requested that people use the form in the link to submit FOIA requests. It's not required, but it has worked well for those using it.

It can be emailed to:

There is more of an explanation here:

I submitted my FOIA a few weeks ago on a Sunday and receive a response within a few hours with the full report.
