I am wanting to load 65 gr game kings as well, and have lots of IMR 4166 on hand. Does anyone have any load data for IMR 4166? Typically similar charge weights for Varget and IMR 4166 but want to be sure. Alpha LRP brass.Lapua virgin

25 rounds down it. Should speed up![]()
1-8 is working great with 90 gr bergers and 88 eldm.Collecting parts for a new build I plan to shoot suppressed 100% of the time.

Some barrel questions…
1. Shooting 80-90s, what’s the verdict on twist? 7? 8? Somewhere in between?
2. Min barrel length? I’m thinking 22 with a TB Ultra 7 attached all the time. Anyone going 20 or shorter?
Throat erosion.. I tied them when the barrel was new and I couldn’t get them to shoot good. I tried the Bergers then and it loved them. Fast forward 600rds and a little over .125” of throat erosion, I couldn’t chase the lands anymore and lost some accuracy so I revisited the 88s and they have a lot more bearing surface. I seat them .005 off the lands and get 3200fps with .25 moa or better. Now, the 88s perform the same or better than the 85.5s, performance numbers, BC etc. are the same or better and the price is less than half… that’s very hard to ignore for sure! So I switched to those and am shooting more for less with the same or better accuracy numbers. Why did you switch bullets?
I've been shooting the 85.5's in a 22GT and I've been super impressed with them. They are up there with the venable 105 Hybrids imo.
What kind of barrel life are you seeing with the 22cm? Any worse than a 22-250?I’m running a 26” barrel in 1:7 RH Twist… I had a custom reamer made by JGS for my first rebarrel. I figured it would be best to get ahead of things for when the time is right. The reamer arrived and I got the itch to have a barrel cut to have ready to go.
FYI.. current barrel has just over 600rds through it. It’s a REM Heavy Varmint Barrel 26” 7 Twist. The replacement barrel is 26” M24 7 Twist.
As far as bullets go, I used to shoot Berger 85.5gr LRHTs and then switched to 88gr ELD-Ms. They both shoot light out.
I haven’t burned through my first yet but made another barrel just in case. I don’t know the barrel life yet but have been documenting for when it’s done. From everything I hear, they’re around 1200-1800 depending on how you treat them of course. I don’t worry about it though, it’s like a sports car, you don’t look at the price of gas or the mileage, you just drive and enjoy the experience. What kind of barrel life are you seeing with the 22cm? Any worse than a 22-250?
I'm running an 18" 7.5tw 219 bore ace lt palma, always suppressed. More of a utilitarian hunting/target build at 10-11# all up. Shooting 88s and 90s, running 3100fps with H4350 or N555. I've had 3 22cm barrels now, 22in 8tw was the first, 2nd was 18in 7tw, this ones 18in 7.5tw.Collecting parts for a new build I plan to shoot suppressed 100% of the time.

I shoot N555 in alpha srp brass, 18in 7.5tw 4gr 237 bore ace barrel. You're desired speed will likely require more powder. My barrel was cut with alpha 169fb chamber. I'm jumping 88s bout 50k at 2.71 oal, and with a drop tube, 43.5gr was all I could fit, 3150mv. Shoots well there but a bit toasty, dropped to 42.1gr and running 3040mv, all weather safe load. Just my experience with your exact desired load combo. Good luck!Had some black friday deals so I went with a 1/7.5tw benchmark button rifled 6 grooves med palma for my 18in jack of all trade rifle on a ARC CDG with a xylo chassis for the 75-88gr weight range and I also got a carbon wrapped 1/7 18in for my defiance anti ultra lightweight hnt26 for the 77 lrx for dedicated varmint and white tail gun.
Going to use N555 exclusively with Alpha SRP brass.
Probably won't do much of load dev since the barrel life is short on these, I'll target for 3200 for the LRX, 80.5 and 3100 for the 88s which should be able 39-41gr of N550 at 2.65 according to VV, Hornady and QL
I've got Hornady and Whidden. The Whidden die is much smoother to use. What sizing die is everyone using?
RCBS 22cm matchmaster FL bushing sizer, SAC seating die. What sizing die is everyone using?
I recently screwed on a varmint contour 24" Shilen 7.5 twist ratchet rifled barrel. I will report back on how it works with the Hornady bullets... I am planning to primarily shoot the 80 ELDx which I am hoping will also avoid blow up issues due to its thicker jacket. The initial loads will be with H4350 and Alpha brass.4 groove, tight bores were the configuration that people theorized being hard on bullets in fast twists so your probably good. My unsupported theory is that a Shilen button rifled ratchet profiled 7.5 twist would be on the other end of that spectrum.

I'm hoping to hit the range this week. 42.0gr N550, 77 LRX-BT, 2.622in coal. 18in barrelN555 works very well. I'm running 42.2gr with 88eldm at 3030 from an 18" barrel. 40.0 gr H4350 shot well with same bullet at same speed range. Both these loads are about a grain away from pressure in this rifle. Alpha srp brass, cci450 primers. 219 bore 4gr ace barrel.
Just did a quick velocity test on the farm.I'm hoping to hit the range this week. 42.0gr N550, 77 LRX-BT, 2.622in coal. 18in barrel
For zero load development, I’d say that’s pretty goodThey should be able to shoot tighter, no?
Not enough to warrant the use of components or barrel life. Just load and go.Agreed. I wonder how much better they would shoot if you did load development.
For this specific build, 1/2 even 3/4 moa will do. It'll be the wife's coyote/white tail gun and it's topped with a S&B 3-12 with a fairly heavy P3 reticle on a HNT26 chassis.Lol, I was thinking the same thing, but completely opposite. If you're going to pay $130 per hundred pieces of brass, $0.40 bullets, and $350 - 400 for a jug of powder, $800 - 900 custom barrel.....why settle for Ruger American Ranch accuracy?
I'm just surprised that people go out and buy the best of the best and are happy with that type of accuracy. You could get it for a lot less in components.
I'm not sure, but I suspect this "Load development is a myth" kick has people okay with 3/4" groups.
That's wild. Maybe I shouldn't worry so muchI've been shooting 22 CM's for the past seven years. all six of them have never had a bullet blow up in the air....
No tight bores, all of them have been .219's, and I don't let the carbon build up. all of them are either 6.5's, or 1-7's.
I've driven 88's and 90's past 3250fps, 75's past 3600fps with zero issues.
I'd go with N540. It's the most temp stable out of that list and will easily give you 3550-3650FPS out of the 55-60grIn the process of putting my 22 creed together.22” 1-8 proof barrel.
It will be a dedicated thermal coyote hunting rig so I’ll never shoot anything heavier than a 69gr tmk. Planed to shoot the berger 60 gr varmints, 62 gr varmageddons or possibly the 62 gr eldvt.
Fast and flat is the game.

See people suggest n540 ,rl16,rl17… has anyone run leverevolution, rl15.5 or cfe223? How was your speed and accuracy
Like you I live in a frozen waste land . So temp stability is something I always look for. Usually load development is in warmer weather. Try to avoid doing it in the winter incase of pressure spikes do to heatI'd go with N540. It's the most temp stable out of that list and will easily give you 3550-3650FPS out of the 55-60gr
N550 would also work probably even better. Bit more speed, bit less pressure, bit more case fill.
Well if you live or plan to hunt anywhere that’s cold learn from my mistake and don’t buy 300 pcs of SRP brass. Fuck me.Like you I live in a frozen waste land . I live in western ny. Supposed to drop below zero here next week. Coyote hunting in the winter I’ve never had issues with srp…. I run cci no.400’s in my 6 arc and 223Well if you live or plan to hunt anywhere that’s cold learn from my mistake and don’t buy 300 pcs of SRP brass. Fuck me.
Not sure. I was running varget at first than switched to bench mark. Never an issue.I wonder if a certain type of ball powder would do better in the cold for ignition. StaBall 6.5, HD, Grand, Hunter, Big Game ....

I bet you staball would be fine. I’ve been running it below zero in my 7Saw with cci 450. Never had an issue either.I wonder if a certain type of ball powder would do better in the cold for ignition. StaBall 6.5, HD, Grand, Hunter, Big Game ....
I wouldn't use LVR or CFE223. They are a little bit too fast of burn rate. The N550/555 or H4350/RL16 class burn rate will maximize your velocity even with bullets in the 60-69 weight grain class. In the process of putting my 22 creed together.22” 1-8 proof barrel.

What do ignition issues look like? Is it just the round not going off despite a good primer strike?Had an interesting range day.
Good news:
Found a decent load with the 77LRX (pic below), they needed way more jump than I thought. I did this group at 2.575in coal (0.060 jump)
Brand new Alpha brass, CCI 450, 41.7gr N555
Bad news:
This is not a cartridge that works in the cold with N555 and SRP. I've never had an issue with the CCI 450s in 6.5 creed and H4350 in the cold but today it was barely below freezing and snowing a bit and I was getting really bad ignition issues. Make sense since N555 is slower burning than 4350.
Also tried a brand new PVA jet 6mm muzzle brake and for whatever reason, it gave me 2+ moa vertical. Very odd.
Worse. It goes off after a 0.1-0.2 sec delay. Feels super weird and definitely affects accuracy. What do ignition issues look like? Is it just the round not going off despite a good primer strike?
