R700 triggertech slamfire issue.

So to preface. I have a total of 5 TTs. Two Diamonds on my two custom actions, 2 specials on bighorns, and this special on the R700 on my XM3. Have never really experienced this, and unbeknownst to me until I sat down to practice dry firing last night and ran the bolt rather aggressively, was getting slamfires. Trigger is at 1ish lbs. Obviously the sear engagement can't be adjusted. I could get it safely at 2lbs, just much heavier than I'm used to. Though I could work with it, but I am curious if this has happened to anyone else with TT and an R700?

If this has happened to you what was the solution? I haven't really strayed from TT in years, part of me has half a mind to throw a diamond on it and set it o 1.5lbs.

I had a 700 that wouldn’t work with triggertech. It’s a sear engagement issue. I went with a bix and andy which fixed it since they have adjustable sear.

I also don’t like the B&A as much as the TT. I don’t think it’s nearly as crisp and replaced it with an impact (expensive solution but I refuse to not shoot diamond TT)

A lot of people have a different opinion and love the B&A though…

My experience with BnA on my tempest was much of the same I hated mine, and don't want to get away from TT either. Which is why I'm curious.

Get a Timney HIT. They work well.

Also a Bighorn is a custom action.

Lol i was compartmentalizing the two bighorns are dad's and little brothers

That's what I was thinking as well, don't know how well i like the shoe comparably speaking but I can probably make it work.

I roll back and forth between TT and Timney without issue. I bet you could swing it. Timneys have never given me any issues on 700 actions.

Welcome to the unique hell of a non-adjustable trigger. Pick something that can be opened up and cleaned and which has some adjustability. TT specifically says that you MUST NOT attempt to fix a slam fire or other malfunction by increasing pull weight. So, your choice is to send it in for warranty replacement or…well, that’s the only solution.

I loved two TT diamonds until they started having these kinds of issues…and then I switched to BnA. If you still have confidence in TT, just give it time.

Yeah I think so wish it was the Hunter shoe, going to at least reach out to TT. If I had to painstakingly put a diamond in to keep it TT and at 1.5lbs I wouldn't mind that. I remember reading here or there 700s having issues with TT. Just never crossed my mind, they've been plug and play for us.

I will never go back to BnA FWIW just my cup of tea. However I'm open to letting them try and fix it if it's an issue with the trigger. I have a worked over X-Mark pro I can use in the meantime, will help restore some fundamentals in regards to my inconsistencies since I'm quite literally out of practice this day in age.

This is something that happened to you frequently oregun? I mean I'm looking at the order dates on my TTs it's been years of use without issue, granted it's not match volumes of fire anymore, i just don't have the time currently at this stage in life.

You won’t have to “painstakingly” put it in. Just slam it in there by the usual method.

When you reach out to TT they will tell you to blow it out with air and cycle it a bunch and whatever is in there causing problems will clean itself out.

When that doesn’t work, they will offer to send you a new one, once you send yours in. So, after many weeks with no trigger, you will have a new one that needs to be installed, painstakingly or otherwise. And just a few dusty trips to the range before you have the same problem again.

Painstakingly is referencing the price of the diamond lol, it's not meant to be taken literal.

I wish I had better news. I had two Diamonds which ran fine on two different actions until one day, they didn’t (about 6 months apart). Hang fires mostly but one went to dropping the firing pin as soon as the bolt was closed…you never knew what you would get….right in the middle of a match. In both cases, customer service said to do their recommended lighter fluid and compressed air clean out. That did not solve the problem in either trigger. In one case, they created an order immediately and sent me a new one once they were back in stock. In the other case, they wanted mine back before they sent me a new one. About a month each to get a replacement back. The first time, I installed the new one and ran it for a month before my lack of confidence got in my head. I carry it as a backup now. The second, I sold as soon as it came to the house. Each of my 3 competition actions now runs a Bix.

This issue pops up every couple of years. It often occurs after a period of use and seems to reoccur even with replacement triggers. It is why I dumped all of my TTs.

Too bad you can't find an extended length cocking piece and then time it to the TT sear. A talented gunsmith might be able to weld additional material and then shape it back to original but with additional depth. If it wasn't a clone rifle I would just suggest updating the action to something more modern.

Happens on every trigger tech I’ve put into both factory and custom actions.
Doesn’t happen in actual use, just when I’m trying to run and slam it as fast as possible, the firing pin overrides the triggers top sear.

I cant hardly move fast enough for it to happen to me in dryfire practice myself so I mainly experience it when Im safety checking etc after installation, sitting down with in my lap. Behind my gun actually shooting, never. You really have to slam it home fast. Its not an issue imo.

Oddly enough I had a similar issue with my BnA on my tempest with their hanger. If i ran the bolt home and slapped the knob down into battery it would drop. i could never actually run it hard enough to slamfire.

However i didn't notice the special until dry firing and I guess 300rds in the T coat is starting slick up and i was able to run it home with some force.

For those who don’t like the BnA, just curious what’s your issue with it and are you using the single stage or double stage ?

All my rifles have TT double stage except my 223 nuke has a diamond. I was getting ignition issues on my RimX with a TT diamond single stage so I’m currently using a BnA 2 stage now. There’s not much difference to me between the TT 2 stage and the BnA 2 stage beside the price.

So they just got back to me and said it’s likely a timing issue. Had me do a “follow test” by leaving the handle in the upright position, putting forward pressure on the bolt, and firing the trigger while still in the upright position. They said if it jumps forward there is premature sear engagement from the cocking piece and it needs to be timed.

@st1650 single - no amount of adjustment would make it not have a slight creep. It didn't happen everytime but for 1 in5 or so to be different it was unacceptable for a $330+ trigger.

I have switched all of my bolt guns to the BnA pro X 2 Stage. I understand the love for the TT, they are crisp with extremely limited pre and post travel. They are crisp and precise. It was actually this the led to me switching. For me the little post break over travel facilitates my shot follow through. For others it is a distraction.
