LMT .308 MWS

getting my 3 LMT's cerakoted this week, having a tough choice, my 12.5'' 556 I am going with Cobalt, a grey build. the tossup is between the 16'' 556 and the 16'' .308, most likely one FDE, the other ODG, so many nice FDE/ODG MWS H's..

Same gun as prior.

Now with muffler since FBI and ATF are back from leave and approving form 4s

Nice shooting

How well does the piston system and Abel work together? Gassy? Harsh recoil?
Thank you.

So this rifle in OEM config while loud is actually very softly gassed and pleasant shooting, gassed just right imho. Really low recoil for a .308 gas gun. H buffer with T308T ammo has been the winning combo, right out of the gate. The H3 buffer it came with wasn’t needed at all, for that ammo atleast. It wouldn’t even lock back on empty mag with an H2 buffer.

I actually bought the Abel Theorem for this LMT piston rifle because my Magnus was causing crazy high backpressure, even with the gas plug in the S mode.

It’s way less backpressure, I hate to say night and day, but it really is a drastic improvement.

It’s exactly what I was after, thankfully. I can now run an H buffer when loud in N position, and when suppressed as well, with the plug in S mode. Before, with the Magnus I was having to run an H3 buffer.

And to my surprise, this combo is actually much quieter than I had expected. Not quite Magnus quiet, but not too far off either.

Brass while using Theorem is on the left, Magnus brass on the right, everything else the same, minus the H vs H3 buffer.

I know it's the LMT thread but mannn

I just did a transfer one of these for a guy and other than the cerakote I wasn't impressed. Bolt runs rough. Feedramps overhang. Selector super tight. Trigger loose. Charging handle didn't line up with the upper, big gap. Overall cheap PSA feel. Reminded me why we pay what we do for LMT.

EDIT: A1 version I dealt with not the K1. Both 16s.

That sounds like an awesome project! Cobalt on the 12.5" 556 sounds like it’ll look sharp, especially with a grey build. For the 16” rifles, FDE and ODG are both solid choices—hard to go wrong with either, but it might come down to how you want the rifles to stand out or match any other gear you have. Is the .308 your long-range setup, or more of a general-purpose rifle? It could be fun to go a little more bold with the ODG on that one since it’s a heavier-hitting round.

Thank you

She’s going to be a deer killer. So I’ll probably give hornady precision hunter in 178 ELDX a try in it.

I know 175 fgmm will shoot well. At least according to previous owner of the 18” SS barrel. But want something more hunting oriented for a bullet
Try federal fusion tipped 180gr. Shoots great in my 16" CL and my AIAT. Took a deer with it in my AT at 125ish yards and she didn't take a single step when hit.

Less geared for hunting but the Hornady Black 168amax is sub moa in my 16" CL as well as the AT. SD and ES are also great.

Got in for the MGL110 today. Honestly thinking i might got 6.5cm for this. It pains me to a degree but hell. I can’t see a point in having a 20” and 17” 308. 20” 6.5cm would make a lot of sense.

oh yea!! the .308 16'' LMT is my long range setup currently, I eventually would like to get a 18'' 308 barrel instead and a 13.5 p/w beside it. Maybe a 20'' 6.5 cm if I get into that round, but have not felt like it is worth the juice at the moment with my stash of .308.

I am currently thinking ODG on the .308 big boy and FDE the whole 16'' 556. (I could always FDE furniture the ODG 308 and have a best of both worlds.) will post pics when they are done!

He does say brand new but I’m wondering the same thing. Maybe someone chopped it down and just never shot it. If from the factory I’m sure they’ll make it right. Just not QC you’d want to see from lmt if it is
Agree, my 260, or 308 barrels, do not, look that way. Should give LMT a shout, and see what they have to say.

have been good on x3 LMT's no issues

fresh off the press

I’ve had 8 LMTs, 2 small frames and 6 large. Still have 2 small frames and 4 large. The 2 I got rid of went to friends. The only issue I’ve seen were snug mag wells on the large frames. Only 1 of the 6 would drop a Pmag freely. Lancer, Larue, and KAC mags drop out fine. All of them run stone cold reliably and accuracy has been good to great. You know going into the platform that they’re gassed to run hard.

It is undeniable that they’ve sent out some shit that should have went in the scrap bin. Shame on them as they’ve almost ruined a stellar reputation. They should have seen that people will wait for and pay for quality, top tier gear.

The internet is great about amplifying things both good and bad.

Is there a pretty well known load that the 308 LMT's like ? Mine is a 16" chrome lined.

Going shooting this weekend and I've only got one box of gmm 175 on hand. I'm sitting on several hundred 168 smk so I'll probably just load a box or two. Don't really have time for load development between now and Friday. I've got varget and imr 4064 for powder. And maybe a can of N540.

I’ve had excellent results with just plain factory FGMM 168gr out of my CL barrel.

Anyone running a Surefire 300SPS on an 7.62 MWS with success (16" or longer barrel)? I hear its pretty rough in terms of increased back pressure but I also have a 9" .300blk gun (and a .300 WIn Mag Bolt Gun) I am looking to supress as well. Preferably to Hollywood levels of quiet, at least for the .300blk gun...🤡

I wont complain if I can kill two birds (or more) with one stone if possible but not if it will sacrifice reliability of my MWS. Do I have 5lbs buffer weights and 400lb buffer spring rates in my future or is it not that bad for anyone who has run such a combo on their MWS?

Would love to hear more
Just posting an update in case anyone in the future is also curious about running this combo on their 7.62 MWS.

I ended up purchasing the Surefire 300SPS and have done some testing with it on the LMT. Cutting to the chase, it works just fine on my 16" MWS 7.62 gun. This gun still runs the bone stock Buffer and Spring system and has the Surefire 3 Prong Flash Hider/Suppressor Adapter attached.

Results::

Testing so far has been with Lake City 175gr LR & 147gr PMC x-tac

Runs flawless without Suppressor and ejects brass around the 4pm'ish position
Ran flawless with the 300SPS attached as well, ejecting brass around the 2:30-3pm position

This is probably not what some may consider the picture perfect ejection pattern/location with the Suppressor attached but I'm calling it a win, win. Reason being, I can appreciate that It works flawless in either configuration with the added bonus of not needing to $ick around with the Buffer/Gas system depending on how I am running the gun. That is a win in my book.
