Ridgeline Defense RD-15 LPR

Ordered one, I'm going to slap one of the new Geissele 18" SPR Cut Rifled Barrels in her, or a 16" Kreiger SDM barrel that I've had forever that needs a good home.

I've already got all the other parts in stock that RLD currently use in thier complete rifles to finish it off.

If my Handloads go well in my current ARC rifles, I'll have Paul spin up a 20" Bartlein 6 ARC or 22 ARC.

What AGB should fit under rd15 handguard. ?
I watched the 4 part series the Rudy did on YouTube, the RD-15 currently has a .875 Gas Block Journal with a pretty beefy Gas Blcok so it's a safe bet you can run just about anything you want under .963

Both of my prospect barrels that I'll be using have a .750 Gas Block Journal so it wont be an issue. I do have a couple new 20" and 22" Bartlein's .875 Match Heavy barrels that i keep on hand so i don't have to wait 6 months for a replacement if one or my mine go south. I'll seat both to verify the .875 clears without issue.

I went through a couple of very conventional lo profile gas blocks before I found one that would fit without impacting the inside of the handguard during barrel whip. The ID is pretty small

A gas block can have clearance while still contacting the handguard during firing. I've had to clreance a handguard even though it looked fine; there was poor accuracy and wear marks starting to show.

I see a lot of people with cantilevered mounts in these rifles. It looks like you’d almost never need them since the upper receiver has a few extra pic rails. Has anyone actually found that they needed a cantilevered mount?

Also, when swapping out for an ambi lower…what has everyone been using? It only seems to go onto one of the 4 I’ve tried putting it on…I had heard it’s a tight fit but am still surprised how tight it actually is.

Mine didn’t fit on any of lowers until I put it on an older spikes lower I have that’s like 20 years old. I was told they are made that way so you can “fit” them to your lower.

I am using a non cantilever C1 Max badger mount.

With a Mk5 it puts my eye relief in the same spot as a c1 cantilever on a standard receiver.

I've seen a LMT lower that matched well and was said to fit nicely too.

Getting closer, now how about upper and handguard only...
To be completely honest, this entire project was a "side quest" so that we could justify making the rifle we always wanted. Pretty much figured we would sell the initial run and that would be the end of it. The response we received was more than we anticipated. We are a small, self-funded company so inventory management is a high priority. We've also witnessed the cautionary tales of many small companies that had "crowdsourced" their growth only to not delivery in a timely fashion and didn't want to fall prey to that model. We don't live in a vacuum, we hear the requests and we are working very hard on our initiative to meet the demand signals. Threads like these are an amazing resource for us to be able to interact with folks we might not otherwise get the chance to and listen to their input. All that to say that your requests do not fall on deaf ears, we're working on it.

6 arc 6 arc !!

Thanks for building cool functional guns

I think you're going to have to stick to a certain diameter under the handguard. Probably something like .980. and if you want to use MLOK accessories maybe even slimmer. On a similar but different note, I didn't know JP was making a semi-monolithic CTR-02 upper now; just saw that they do. They call it CTI-23. And they sell "chassis kits". Upper, fore arm, and lower. I have a M24 contour 224 1:7" barrel I have been planning on turning into a 22 ARC +2. With the larger diameter MKIII handguard and different available lengths, I think I'm going to go with a CTI-23 builders kit to allow a heavy AF barrel and a 17" handguard. Very similar price point.

Their gas block, the index notch and retaining nut are one of the features that set it apart. You don’t need an adjustable gas block for a properly gassed barrel, which the ridgeline rifles are.

Yes, but that’s not my question. They now sell reciever sets with NO barrel, BCG or trigger. I’m building from there and wondering what others who have done this have used before?

I would almost beg to differ I have a Ridgeline upper and run it with the recommended A5H2 buffer set up. Clean the gun regularly and when shooting it unsuppressed I’ll get failure to lock back at times and failure to pick up the next round at times. Suppressed don’t have any issues. While I really do dig the design at the price point I’m a little disappointed in it. I plan on swapping the buffer to a jp silent capture, but just haven’t gotten around to it.

Have you called them about it?

I can see why ya sold it. That thing shoots awful
It would shoot a few good groups and then it wouldn't. Here's the first 4 groups through it. You can see how it is inconsistent. Which is why I said we need a 5x 5 because a person could cherry pick a good group or two. The test target was just shy of .9". I bought the rifle off someone who put 60 rds through it. I wonder what they thought of it.

In retrospect, after I pulled the barrel I saw this and I think the gas block was hitting the handguard. And if you look at the groups, it certainly makes sense.

Here's a comparison of the Proof barrel vs the replacement barrel.

There's not a lot of good looking testimonial groups on this thread. And the posts that are here often have some sort of caveat, "I'm not a good group shooter" or something like that. And the test targets the guns come with kinda confirm. I shot more than a couple of groups and just found that it was too inconsistent for me. 3/4" groups definitely get it done for this type of gun and it's intended purpose but for me, I wanted a longer barrel and more velocity anyway. Black Max is happy with the barrel I sold him. I'm happy to have a different barrel. I call that a good deal. He's running it in a different handguard and it seems to shoot better. I think if he throws up a 5 x 5 showing consistent performance, it would confirm my theory.

I may have missed this but what did you end up picking for a gas block to clearance the handguard?
