Can someone school me on 280 Rem/280 AI?

Re: Can someone school me on 280 Rem/280 AI? Stiggy has a great question. My situation is that i have very little time to shoot. It seems like I spend more time f#*ing with my guns than shooting them. I would like to stay away from fire-forming, neck turning, etc., if it only means some...

Can someone school me on 280 Rem/280 AI?

Re: Can someone school me on 280 Rem/280 AI? Those are both some nice looking rifles, thanks. How is the recoil with 168-180 gr. bullets? Ever shoot the 130-150 gr. bullets?

Can someone school me on 280 Rem/280 AI?

As I have previously posted, I have a R700 LA I want to build into a precision rig, mostly for range work but also an occasional deer hunt. I do reload. I had asked the members to help me decide between 6.5X55 and 30.06 and received alot of good feedback but also preferences for several other...

    6.5X55 or 30.06 Ackley Improved?

Re: 6.5X55 or 30.06 Ackley Improved? I am familiar the the Ackley change to the shoulder for various calibers. Will there be any less recoil in 280 if 30.06 is the parent case?

    Gunsmithing Torque wrench questions (update)

Re: Torque wrench questions I ended up buying the Wiha Torque Vario 20-70 in.lb., received it today, and am very pleased. It is quite solid and comes with a robust adjustment tool. There are solid and audible clicks when you reach the torque setting. They are made in Germany and came with...

    6.5X55 or 30.06 Ackley Improved?

Re: 6.5X55 or 30.06 Ackley Improved? Thank you for the advice. Now, you guys really have my head spinning with all these calibers. (Honestly, I haven't even heard of some of them). This has to fit my 30.06 bolt face as don't want to pay to have it machined/replaced. Common caliber and...

    6.5X55 or 30.06 Ackley Improved?

I'm getting ready to purchase parts for my R700 LA build (currently a old 30.06 sporter ADL) and was set on chambering 6.5X55. However, I've been told I could stay with 30.06 or even go 30.06 AI. The advange for me is that I already load the .06 and have dies, components, surplus HXP, etc...

    ADL configuration for precision build?

Re: ADL configuration for precision build? I'm not military or LE, I just want a quality, accurate rifle. So, I'm looking at it like this: Savings: ADL vs. bottom metal or badger: $180-365 Bead blast SS barrel vs. Cerekote gun: $200...

    ADL configuration for precision build?

Per my previous posts, I have an old R700 ADL LA in 30.06. I am building a 6.5X55 with a Kreiger #8 and Manners T3. Since I have the ADL guard and follower already, I am thinking of saving ~$200.00 on bottom metal and just having the stock inletted for ADL. I know a Badger DBM would be ideal...

    Cosmetic Upgrade(s)

Re: Cosmetic Upgrade(s) Is the 40X the same spec as a 700 SA? If so, look at the AICS. At 800.00 its expensive but if do a McMillan, Badger DBM, and bedding you're looking at about 1050.00 give or take. Also, you can install yourself with no beddnig or trip to the gunsmith.

    Gunsmithing Torque wrench questions (update)

Re: Torque wrench questions The Craftsman was also recommended to me. Seems like a big wrench for torquing ring and base screws. I guess you need a 1/4 adapter to fit your screwdriver bits? Anyone here own a Wiha?

    Gunsmithing Torque wrench questions (update)

I need a torque driver for base and ring screws (15 in.lb.) and stock and ring bolts (65 in.lbs). I know Seekonk makes a nice product but I'll need two wrenches and they are pricey. I am looking at a Wiha Torque-Vario 20-70 in.lb. torque screwdriver for $74.00. 3 questions: Is 20 in.lb...
