Gunsmithing Short action .284 Win "tactical"l build on a Shilen action/barrel

You don't have to neck turn or resize the Winchester....it's real 284 brass. Not 6.5-284 or something else. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

Gunsmithing Short action .284 Win "tactical"l build on a Shilen action/barrel

What wrong with that? That's only like forever in gun years. Fryj-Were you using new brass the other day or are you still on the old stuff? You try that out with the suppressor yet? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

MAson DIxon Series shooters - A thought

I think its a great idea. How about a two story shoot house with a final hide position upstairs for the rifle? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

    Need opinions for savage build

Here's that excel spreadsheet that figures barrel weight based on dimensions.

    Need opinions for savage build

I run a medium palma contour on my comp rifle. Shaves about a pound, maybe a little more, but it also shifts the weight back towards the action so it's not so front heavy. Makes it seem a lot lighter than just the weight reduction plus you keep the barrel length for velocity gains. I had planned...

    Mason Dixon Sniper Series 2014

TRL = the new Tactical Rifleman's League on SH. It's a way for local matches to count towards a universal ranking system here on the hide. Pretty cool if you ask me. I'm excited to get back as well. Only got to shoot Mayberry once last year and am looking forward to getting back down there...

Sneak Peek - New LRA Bipod

Wow that looks really nice. Josh turned me on this year to the LRA LT after some frustration with some other bipods. They are really rock solid and worth every penny. Other than the size, which I overlooked quickly because of their how solid and functional they are, I am 110% satisfied because...

PNTC Glengary,WV 2014 Major Match dates

I wasn't able to make it to the one this fall but I'm really looking forward to these. I have shot there before and I can't wait to get back. This whole TRL thing is pretty cool too. See you next year. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2

    Gunsmithing Whats your dream lathe

I chose a SB Heavy 10. I'm also fond of the SB 13's, which I did my last rifle on while mine was H10 getting ground. A Hardinge would be nice too. I'm sure there are tons of lathes out there that would fit the bill but there is something about old American iron that I like. Plus I got 2 Heavy...

    Gunsmithing wanting a better barrel

I did a medium palma on my last build to save some weight. I'm pleased with the results. It was a Bartlein 25" and it handled nice. Still plenty heavy, shot nice little groups and didn't string ever when it got hot. Had a nice balance point right around the mag well and was noticeably lighter...

Gunsmithing What 7mm cal to chamber a new barrel

An improved version of the .284 Win designed by Bill Shehane if my memory serves me right. Just wanted to throw it out there as a possible choice. It's getting a decent following as of late. Personally I like the aforementioned 280 Ackley and will likely have on in my box of tools someday.

Gunsmithing Thoughts on roughing out with a twist drill

As long as he is going to true up the drilling with a boring bar prior to reaming you should be fine. Like said before a reamer will only follow what's in front of it. If the drilled holed is nonconcentric you're gonna have problems. I would assume boring would be included in the "predrill" but...
