    Free Range parenting

I read that article this morning. Seems the bill legalizes nothing, just offers protections for common sense to keep the snowflakes from causing more problems.

Range Report Fun 500yd Low Recoil Rifle....223AI or 224 Valkryie

Have you loaded 223 to 5.56 pressures and still felt like you needed more? To me, the Valkyrie is for 800 plus with low recoil. I'll shoot 69s at about 2700 or so out to 600 and only bump up to 77s beyond that.

PRS Talk Tripod Setup for PRS

Depends on the match. My first three matches, the lack of a tripod pretty much cost me about 10% of the match points. The next two, lack of a tripod cost me nothing. I finally have a good set-up that I have tried in practice and based on what I learned from shooting a few years without. It...

Cabelas Krotos HD Spotting scope is $500 off; worth buying?

Ken, I think it depends on what you want to do with it. For matches and hunting, I prefer a 10x or 12x. For seeing holes in paper at distance, I would not buy anything I have not looked through myself at what I want to be able to see. A good high-magnification spotter is great for shooting...

    Inner workings of a semi-auto.

Not mixing them, just explaining them. Just like a good shooter can show changes in group location based on technique, so too can a good shooter do the same thing by changing around internal parts, altering dwell time and changing powder speed with a gas gun. Even gas tube alignment can affect...

    Inner workings of a semi-auto.

Because it does have an effect on most AR pattern rifles. Most are overgassed and most have excessive dwell time. The gas gun has 4 major cycling impulses (to the bolt gun's single it we don't count comp effects) which are affected by several variables. Powder speed, mass of the ejecta, mass...

    6mm Creedmoor or 6.5-47L

Split the difference and shoot 120s/123s in the 6.5. :)

    6mm vs. 6.5

I have been shooting a .260 for almost 15 years sporadically off and on until about 4 years ago and a .243 primarily for the last 3 years. .243Win. Bullet splash is less, especially when there are weeds and grass around the target. Balancing recoil vs. splash, it is probably a wash for me...

    Tripod comparison data request

Here is my set up for the severe downhill, and the removal of the lever with the knob for tension on the Benro. The Benro BTW, is rated at 110 pounds. Note: Had the RRS clamp and adapter on when I took the photo. The Fittest looks the same, but direct mounts to the Feisol without an adapter...

Ruger American Predator 6mm Creed... Wow!

I have one in .243Win. Put it in a Boyds AT-One. Pretty impressive light rig that outshot my RPRs in the same caliber for half the price tag.

    Tripod comparison data request

I have a Feisol 3342 with a Benro leveling base and a Fittest Arca QR clamp. Total price is right at $600 and weight is 3.6 lb. It took me a while to get what I wanted, but I love this set-up. I did remove the tension lever on the Benro, thread the stud and attach a knob to get the full...

    Bergara b14 HMR

The HMR is a better choice. Smoother action, better trigger, smaller groups. Bergara barrels are excellent and the current cost for Bergara to rebarrel is $500 including cerakote of the barrel. With that, you can get different calibers and profiles as well. To me, that is one of the benefits...

    UltraSonic wind / weather station

I have "played" with both Optical and Ultrasonic when I was working on autonomous vehicle projects. The US was used while the vehicle was in motion to give us the actual wind at the vehicle after subtracting out the ground speed. It worked great, and depending on how we collected and tabulated...

    OCW or Velocity Node?

When you try it and understand the science behind it, it really becomes quite simple and elegant. As much as I enjoy reloading and tinkering with loads and the corresponding data, I'd rather put 20 rounds downrange and have a great load as opposed to 100+ rounds of less consistent searching.

    Kestrel Firmware 1.20 Release

I just started using my 5700S. Does this apply to that model if mine does not have LINK? BTW, thanks for the Demo units at Blue Steel Ranch for Brian Whalen's courses. Very helpful.

    OCW or Velocity Node?

Several engineers have also used the 10 round ladder test as described in the linked video, and found it to work well. I have run it numerous times now, and then follow it with another 10 shot string bumping only by 0.1 grains. I have found it to be repeatable and consistent in that I get...

Anyone using the 107 SMK in 243 winchester?

The indicator of a node is the least slope of the line, graphing velocity on the Y axis and charge on the X axis. Once I have the node, I do play with the seating depth just a little, but typically, I am loading at mag length or in the range of about 10 to 15 off the lands. Then shoot 5 shot...
