Re: DIY Savage 110 DBM Nice work. I take it that you don't have a TIG? Neither do I. You might consider using some of the aluminum soldering products that are commonly available to reinforce your box and joints.

Will rifle length gas system in an 18" AR15 be OK?

Re: Will rifle length gas system in an 18" AR15 be OK? 18" barrel with a rifle gas system is no problem. I have one but I am not sure of the gas port size. Are you going to run a mix of ammo or are you going to run a single load? If you are going to run a single load, I would get the larger...

Is 284 win the answer to the all around comp gun?

Re: Is 284 win the answer to the all around comp gun? I run a .284 in a 700 LA for my all-around long range comp gun. 175 SMK over RL-17 yields 2850 ES of 20 SD of 8 out of a 25.5" barrel. Things get a bit long with the can on the end, but its still manageable. I use the 300 win mag AICS...

    Gunsmithing Devcon for texture

Re: Devcon for texture Devcon applied with a sponge much like a kid sponge-paints. Using the sponge allows for a very thin application and a much more aggressive texture like grip-tape. I have seen and held the marine-tex/tongue depressor method, and I prefer this style.

FINALLY! 10-Rnd 300 Win AICS Mags and Thumbscrews!

The thumbscrews are pretty nice, especially if you have a long action (the cheek rest needs to be removed to remove the bolt). The 10-round mag holds 11 rounds of 284 and works great. I picked them both up from Midway: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=413420...
