Great Article on the Army / Remington XM110 Program

Kevin, since CE you were in QA, why did DPMS not NDE ever part of the rifles they sent to be evaluated by the military? It it seems to have been a failure of QA to ensure no defects with parts is what de-railed DPMS's entry.

    Sleuthing IMI 5.56 77gr OTM LR Mod 1 ??

07yzryder, I don't know much about the 77gr Berger OTM...but i suspect it's probably seating-depth sensitive unlike all their non-hybrid offerings. Measure the throat to your rifling. If you are circa 30-35-thousands off the lands at mag-length, then yes, that load should shoot lights out for ya.

    Sleuthing IMI 5.56 77gr OTM LR Mod 1 ??

Yes, loaded to maglength...i shoot it to 600yards frequently.

    Sleuthing IMI 5.56 77gr OTM LR Mod 1 ??

Don't sleuth anything. Load 24.7gr Varget under 77smk and shoot it. Should get you close to 2,750 - 2,800ft/s from a 20" AR-15 and will be accurate than you.

    Question about .308 velocities?

SVX, Dont you know Hornady, Sierra (and all bullet manufacturers) "lawyer down" their load data? I prefer to get my load data from two(2) sources: 1. Powder manufacturer (and lyman reloading manuals) 2. My Rifle(s). They tell me what a "hot" load is, what an accurate load is, etc. Also...

    Question about .308 velocities?

Chris, Try my favorite hunting/match load: 178Hornady AMAX 44.4gr Varget LC or Win Bras Win Large Rifle Primer 2.80" COAL That load absolutely hammers and is responsible for a lot of dead pigs, deer, sheep, paper, and personal best 600yard match scores. I've used said load in my M1A &...

    Question about .308 velocities?

No worries Chris. I'm an engineer, so it irks me when ppl on shooting forums use "meters" and "yards" interchangeably...in the real world, the differences are huge and the consequences of mixing units can be dire. Back on point, what powders & bullets do you have available? I can offer some...

    Question about .308 velocities?

Chris, Your approach is all wrong. Energy in itself does not kill an animal, neither does a bullet's "Knock-down power", expressed in FPE. Shot placement and velocities high enough to produce reliable expansion at your maximum range is what matters. Shooting any animal in the leg with any...

When to switch from 4350 to 4831 in the .30-06?

H-4831 is a significantly slower burning powder than H-4350. H-4831 is not well suited to bullets below 190gr... As a general rule, above 200gr, H-4831 will yield better velocity than H-4350 without pressure signs...If all you can find is H-4831, then your decision has been made for you.

    Range Report 175 SMK unstable

There are two possible explanations: 1. Someone Cross-fired on your target (and their issues were transposed on your target) 2. There is tall grass in front of the target that caused your bullet to deflect as it hit the target...this has happened to me before although with 556 rounds.

    Remington 700 long range questions

Don mean to threadjack but, how difficult is it to convert a Rem 700 to a LH version? I'd like to pick up one of these, and then change it to a lefty versions...I want this to be a "cheap" conversion. I may: do the Timney trigger mod and add a mcmillan HTG stock and get said stock inletted...

    243 Win Loads

Haven't reloaded for my .243 yet, but i've shot quite a bit of Bergers in other calibers... In my experience, the VLD like to be .010" (ten-thousands) jammed or .035" (thirty-five thousands) jumped. In three of my rifles, much outside that range, and i got crappy groups...like 1.5 - 2"...

    55 gr bullet & Varget in a 20" AR15

Second lazy engineer's opinion on varget as a match with 55gr bullets. 55gr Hornady Softpoints 27.5gr Varget LC-11 Brass Tula SRP. 27.5gr varget will overflow many commercial cases with thicker walls. The powder comes almost up to the case mouth and you hear crunching when the bullet is...

Help deciding on caliber for model 70LA build

No offense intended however, Your rifle caliber is fine & more than capable of doing what you want...perhaps you should spend more time behind it... Develop loads for it (check out the 30-06 loads in the reloading depot) you will be pleasantly surprised.

    AR Comp 77SMK HPBT

Lazy, It's tough to say. I don't believe your loads are unsafe, despite the "pressure signs". Some gas guns tend to give false pressure signs even at low charge weights. My experience with this powder is that the hot loads is where the accuracy is, and your results seem to match that. If you...

New barrel thoughts for my AR

Since this is strictly a bench gun, i'd go as long as possible, 24", rifle length, 1:8 or 1:7 in a Wylde chamber. I recommend white oak armament, Lilja, Krieger or Satern as top choices.

What is my check list for hunting this season?

Still having trouble understanding your explanations especially without pictures. I don't want to make a diagnosis without pictures and a better description of the failure mode. But you definitely need a different rifle for this hunting season, assuming you cannot find a real gunsmith (not the...
