    Maggie’s Welcome to MONTANA!

One of the members here has hosted a LR get together/shoot for several years out near Glasgow. I've been to a couple of them and both times we had measured winds over 40 mph. Makes interesting shooting a 308 out to 1500 yards. There's a reason I like to shoot the 208 Amax.

    ELR what percentage is mental?

When someone puts their child behind a LR rig, and they hit a LR target, deer, whatever, it doesn't mean much to me at all. The child doesn't comprehend what went into the shot.

    ELR what percentage is mental?

I don't know what 'mental' means exactly. I see ELR as a combination of art and science. That is what makes it interesting to me. The science, well, that in essentially the gear, and physics. The art, that's the individual understanding of the science, paired with the skills that comprise...

    King of 2 Mile Update

Nice to see the envelope getting pushed. My pockets aren't deep enough to play that far though. Wasn't so long ago a few of us were loading the 308 Win with High BC projos and shooting to distances from 1K to 1 mile, and getting nothing but shit for trying.

Miss Grande just got her youthful idealism jerked out from under her feet. I wonder how this might change her world view, or not. Shane

Rifle Scopes 40 MOA mount too much?

I'm using Badger Ordnance 45 moa rails on two rifles, and a Nightforce 40 moa rail on another. They seem to be good quality.

Rifle Scopes 40 MOA mount too much?

I believe the added 20 moa equates to about 5.8 mils, so sounds like you will have about 2 mils left at the bottom. That seems like a good place to be.

Rifle Scopes 40 MOA mount too much?

If you still have 7 mils 'down' from your 100 yard zero, with your 20 moa base, you should be fine with a 40 moa base. One thing I like about having plenty of 'extra' up available is that when you are shooting your furthest shots, your erector is not nearly topped out. I say that because my...

Range Report 53gr vmax .223 vs. 55gr vmax and others

I shoot them in a Ruger American Predator 223. 1/8 twist at about 3250 fps. Great prairie dog load. Solid sub-moa accuracy. Shane

    Tent recommendations

We have a Seek Outside 6-man tipi. It gives an amazing amount of room for the weight. It's 14' across, 7'10" tall (I'm 6'3" and can walk in and move around near the pole), and weight 5.8 lbs with the fabric, center pole, 20 stakes, and three carry sacks. It rides the wind very well too. Packs...

    Rifle Scopes SWFA 16x?

I sold my early 16X model. I'm using a couple of the 12x and one of the 10X nowadays, all milquad. I don't miss the 16X. I've taken the 12X to a mile and worked well with the fine MQ reticle. The things I didn't like so much about the 16X were smaller FOV, tighter eyebox, grainier view...

    308. vs 30/06 accuracy.

Comparing the 30-06 in the Garand, to the 308 in the M14, in the realm of Service Rifle competition is one thing. Probably some quantifiable advantages to the M14 platform and the 308. Comparing the 30-06 to the 308 in precision boltguns, with handloaded precision ammo, is a totally different...

    308. vs 30/06 accuracy.

I handload and shoot precision rifles in both chamberings. Don't think there is any difference in accuracy potential, it's all about a good rifle, and good ammo. Given equal barrel lengths, the 30-06 has 150-200 fps more velocity potential, if one knows how to capitalize on the 30-06's larger...
