    Mosin Nagant

$100 is fair. Maybe even $150 for a nice one. $500-$600 for a Finn, if you're in to that. $400+ for a bog standard Russkie gun that has a pitted bore (as damn near all of them do, due to corrosive primers in the legacy ammo)... not a chance.

    Howa action/chamber consistency

What he said. I'm using a Farrell barrel vise from Brownell's. In any event, the Howa barrel that inspired this post is from 2018, and the action is from the summer of 2020.

AND.... Another 'special' cartridge that will fall into the niche category with limited supply/mfg. coverage... The Browning 6.8 Western.

I asked myself this question, and the answer I came up with is that it looks at this point (so far as I can tell, anyhow) like there is going to be a 6.8mm round for the military, so they may be planning on kind of riding those coat tails. In all honesty, would .308 Win and .223 Rem be as...

AND.... Another 'special' cartridge that will fall into the niche category with limited supply/mfg. coverage... The Browning 6.8 Western.

That's where I'm at. I can see some validity in the dimensions of the cartridge, given the compromises required of the WSM case in true short actions. IMO, WSM chamberings are best utilized in medium/long actions (looking at you, Tikka), while this kind of seems like a SAAMI'd 270 Sherman Short...

Locktite or rockset or nothing for mounting muzzle brake on proof barrel

High temp, high strength Loctite is what I usually use. Haven't had one come off yet, and when I want to remove them, a bit of heat from a MAP gas torch gets 'er done.

    AR 45 questions

For reference, per a customer service rep from Angstadt, their upper IS compatible with the CMMG radial delayed blowback stuff.

    AR 45 questions

I have (possibly because I am mentally addled) decided that I want an AR 45 upper, and am looking into building it myself (see previous comment, re: mentally addled). In my research, I have come to decide that I would like to go with the CMMG radial delayed blowback architecture, and am...

    Lightweight hunting build

IMO 6.5 Grendel is more work than it's worth in this application, when 6.5 Creedmoor is just plug-and-play.

    Oversized bolt knobs

I have something of a bolt knob fetish, and in all honesty, I like the Glades Armory 1.75" knurled knob the best from a function/feel perspective.

Shorty rifle build-help picking a caliber

I think it's both a great and often overlooked round for this sort of application. I wouldn't mind seeing a modern short action/.473 bolt face cartridge, but I feel like the Creedmoor case doesn't have the capacity to really drive the 150+ gr projectiles (IMO, part of the reason why the 30 TC...

Shorty rifle build-help picking a caliber

I know it wasn't listed as an option, but have you thought about 7mm-08? In a short barrel, the 7mm-08 can do everything that a .308 can do, but with those oh-so-slippery 7mm BCs. IMO, the 6.5 CM really leans on velocity for its effectiveness on target, and to get there you either need to run...

    Archimedes?

I have one, but the build is still in progress so I can't speak to the action... uh, in action. That said, I have spent a fair amount of time finger banging it, and I see no reason to have a negative perception of it.

Bets on MDR functionality on first range trip?

Well, I finally got a chance to get to the range to finish churning through the "break in" rounds that I mentioned in the OP. The only functional issue that I experienced is a single time when it didn't lock open on an empty mag (more on this in a moment). Using the technique that I described...

    20 caliber build

I would think that a good starting place for your build would be a Howa mini action in Grendel or 7.62x39 (same face diameter). They really are slick little actions that run very well.
