    I’m not sure if it’ll be worth it to try to tune the 223 for perfect CRF, with the smaller case head I’d imagine it may be more difficult to get it to slide underneath the extractor.

    I had to trim the MDT mag’s feedlips to get them to cycle 223 reliably. The mag was holding onto the rounds for too long and causing hangups. I don’t think I’m getting complete CRF but it works great in all orientations when you cycle it fast. -Kirby

    A carbon fiber barrel and lighter weight scope is all I can think of for a standard TRG. That being said it should get you into a weight that should be fine for offhand and positional slung shooting. Guys are out there shooting 18 pound AR’s in NRA/CMP service rifle.

    Different rings designs will have different torque specs. Just because different rings have different torque specs doesn’t necessarily mean they’d impacting the scope with more or less force.

    I appreciate craftsmanship, and there will always be a place in the market for smith’s like GAP. I wonder though if all the new semi-custom DIY rigs are going to put a hurting on the traditional smithing business. Probably not as their wait times I’m sure are still lengthy.

    The only thing I’m curious about is that if the recoil lug is under tension as soon as you unscrew the barrel it might want to shift. I’m not sure if that would happen, or if it would be an issue at all.

    I thought that was going to be the case, but I can have my bolt in battery, turn the bolt stop the the rear, and take my bolt out.
