    Gunsmithing Muzzle runout

Not a big deal. My F-Class rifle is .052” out at muzzle end. Took it to 1000 yd. benchrest match and shot 5” group. It won’t be as easy to tune load for as a straight barrel, but will still get job done. If you want a straight barrel, buy a Hawk Hill, they are straightest barrels I’ve seen.

    Which Brake

Both are excellent, I’d say they are very close to each other as far as recoil reduction. Design and angle of ports are almost identical. I’d just pick the one with features you like and you’ll be happy.

    Which Brake

I’d try and save for the APA lil bastard or Area 419. Both are fantastic self timing brakes.

    6BR family: Other than Varget?

In my 6BRA, H4895 was most accurate around 2975 fps. Pressure anything over 3000. Varget was still less than 1/2 MOA consistently around 3050fps. Ran into pressure at 3100 FPS. This is with a 28” barrel and 107gr bullets

    Spray Painting Rifles

Here is another option for spray paint, there is a company Montana Cans that makes all kinds of webbing, crackling, different effects. Pic is a little dark, lighting wasn’t very good in shop that night. This black web looks awesome on the Coyote color in dead weeds on edge of field

    Gunsmithing Benchtop mills

I have 2 1967 Bridgeport Mills, gave $750 for 1 and $950 for the second one. Both are great machines. You can usually find good deals on them at auction or word of mouth. Only thing is, you have to have a 3 phase converter.

    Load Development Question

I haven’t noticed a big gain in MV after 125rds from my Proof barrels like the Kriegers, Brux, Bartlien, etc. Yes you can develop load now, and YES when it speeds up your group size will change, but you should have a good idea of “node” you need to be in by then.

Gunsmithing Trued Rem 700 Action beneficial?!

Most of the time, the biggest gain in accuracy is a stress free bedding job. If it is not stress free, you may as well not bedded it at all.

Gunsmithing Trued Rem 700 Action beneficial?!

The factory recoil lugs are junk and here is a aftermarket one that’s junk also. Not only is there a .0015” ding in top but it measures different thickness from side to side and top to bottom and inside hole is also different measurements. There is a lot more than just “blueprinting” to get a...

Barrel Options for a custom .260 Rem

It’s a 6.5x47. I’m running a 130 at 2750 with H4350 now. It’s not the fastest on the block with short barrel, but it shoots very good very consistently.

Feedback: New build for my daughter

I went with a Manners compact so my wife and kids can also shoot it. Might give it a look. Sounds like your daughter will have a very nice present.

    Kelbly's Black Bear Tactical

I’ve got 400 rounds through my Black Bear and it is eating everything like candy. I’m not easy on equipment either, it’s not a safe Queen. It rides in UTV and truck when I’m out running around. Dirt, dust, mud, blood, hair, rain, etc. I built it to use it and I enjoy seeing quality equipment do...

Gunsmithing School me on measuring an action for a barrel Tennon

I have not chambered a Ruger American, but on Remington 700 style bolts, and customs like the 700, case is about flush with end of barrel, usually within few thou. With flat bolts, case sticks out a bit. Just did a couple Kelbly’s actions with flat bolt and I’m wanting to say they were...

Gunsmithing School me on measuring an action for a barrel Tennon

#1 - usually .010” it shouldn’t touch barrel. I’ve seen some tenon diagrams say as much as .045” #2 - depends what action your cutting for. #3 - there is a tenon worksheet on Brownells you can download and use for measurements. I headspace by tightening action on go gage with bolt closed, use...
