    This was my grandfather's 700, so it's not getting sold. 8-40 screw upgrade sounds like a good idea. I plan on a bartlein barrel and probably a grayboe terrain stock.

    So I have an older 700 long action that I am looking to turn into a long range hunting rig. The action is already pretty slick and certainly nicer than what Remington is putting out today. In an effort to keep costs down, what is the essential gunsmithing work I should have done on this action?

    Funny, I'm in a similar situation. I have my grandfather's old 60s or 70s era 700 in 30-06 with a pencil barrel. I've debated leaving it as is (where it will get little to no use) or having it gently worked up into a nice 6.5x55 hybrid hunting/target rifle.

    What are you running? I've got an 8 twist 6 Creed barrel coming and was looking at using the 107smk (or the 110 if my barrel likes them) and finding a node at 2850-3000. Looking to shoot a less expensive, more available bullet and extend barrel life. Just curious if I'm going about this...

    6.5 creedmoor = 6.5x47 ?

    Creedmoor can be pushed a bit faster. The lapua may have a bit better barrel life since it burns less powder. The lapua is one of the easiest calibers to tune and can use more powders than the Creedmoor.

    Building a 6 Creedmoor but I will probably be loading down to 6 Dasher speeds, 2950 or so. I know the 105 hybrids are where it's at but I'd like to shoot a less expensive and easier to find bullet.

    How important is being able to spot shots at the longer distances the Valkyrie can achieve? MPA posted a video of their rifle shooting at 1k and impacts on steel were very difficult to discern. I suppose it will be easy to see the trace as recoil will be minimal.

    Deciding between 6.5x47L and 6CM/6x47L. Would be shooting 120-130gr in 6.5 and 105-110 6's.
