Spotting your shots at 1k with 6mm?

Building a new rifle and ordering my barrel soon, the caliber I choose hinges on whether or not I can easily spot hits at 1000-1250. I have good glass (razor gen2) and have no problems spotting my 6.5cm impacts. Now clearly the 6.5 will be easier to see but is the 6mm easy enough?

The dasher types with a high BC traditional bullets seems usually good, the 6Br with lower BC and slower bullets can be MUCH tougher. . But it depends on the speed at time of impact and the mass, type of bullet and target size etc..

Run a solid (they don't provide as good of a frag signature in any caliber) 80grn TTSX and your not going to see much at 1200.

Deciding between 6.5x47L and 6CM/6x47L. Would be shooting 120-130gr in 6.5 and 105-110 6's.

Best thing you can do is get the best scope you can afford and stick a brake on the end.
A 6BR with a brake and a good scope will let you watch the bullet streak up into view and all the way into the target.

I am shooting .243 out to 1000 and 1250 and see my hits just fine on steel. Actually I see these hits easier than the 6.5 CM hits at this range.

This is my advice as well. I can watch traces exceptionally well with a dasher. It is more valuable than a splash. Also, watching a 3 MIL wind hold curve-ball onto a steel target at 1K is pretty neat.

I have to say, this is something I've really paid attention to over the last year. I don't notice a whole lot of difference between the 6 and 6.5.

It seems more dependent on the backdrop than anything else. There isn't a whole lot of difference between my 110gr SMK at 3100fps at the muzzle versus my 140gr at 2770fps.
