    Remington builds a 338 Lapua on a 40X long action so its not that rare. Older actioned 40X yes. One sold on GB a couple of years ago. It was a 300WM repeater.

    I think your making a huge mistake letting this guy "Make it right" The only way to make it right is a new unmolested barrel and your original money back so you can get a reputable smith to do the work.

    I have an 8 and a 9, they both shoot well and I haven't found an advantage of one over the other yet. I don't shoot the light side of the 7mm caliber though and keep it up on the heavy end.

    The only way he wouldn't know it happened is if he farmed out the work. Either way its been pointed out about the fired cases being wonky towards the base which I think someone posted about maybe trying to polish the new plug into place.

    I am pretty sure the box length on a seven is the same as a 700. The shortening is on the rear bridge of the rifle. I know the 223 box is the same in both versions which would lead me to believe the 308 box is also the same.

    The $899 was the 3 day or so deal. They had them for a little bit at $699. There are a few companies that have the 6920's right now for $899. OP your friend is most likely trying to dump his panic purchase on an unsuspecting buyer.
