    Re: 223 and twist - quick question(s) I would go with a 1-7 twist if possible. I have had the 80 amax, 80 vld, and 80.5 full bore fail to stabilize out of a verified 8 twist. I am not quite sure about your second question. I can say that my fireforming loads have been extremely accurate...

    Re: Highest BC for 5.56 8" twist at AR magazine length The 70 vld and the 77 scenar are the best ballistic performers out of an AR magazine. Hornady's published BC for the 75 bthp are on the optimistic side, per Litz and personal testing.

    Re: Stock/chassis for shooting in the cold? I have a McRees, and between a stock pack, skid pad, and gloves I do just fine. The stock temperature has never been the limiting factor here in Fairbanks.

    Re: question on 1:8 twist AR bull barrel & reloading I have had good luck with the 75 bthp over 24 grains of Varget. Nothing exotic, but it has been a consistent performer for me. This is out of a 20" 8 twist Armalite.

    Re: .223 as a starter rifle? I wish I would have started with a good 223 bolt gun. I have an SPS tactical that I had reamed to 223 AI which is currently my favorite rifle. It is a cheap way to hone skills on a full size centerfire platform.

    Re: AR 15 Barrel 1:9 Twist? A 1/9 will stabilize the 70 vld, which is going to be about the best performing AR magazine length bullet out there. It has a BC equivalent to the 75/77 bthp/smk and can be pushed faster.
