16-18 inch shorty rifles

Anyone have a short 300 BA bolt gun? Is there any point to it or is it just a bad idea?
Loved mine when it was a 16" 1:8 twist. Stupid accurate.

If you go shorter to something like 7-9" of barrel, get a 1:5 twist. You run the risk of losing accuracy with subsonics if the bullets not making at least 1-2 full turns in the barrel before exit. At least iny experience. And most plated bullets are still fine at subsonic speed with a 1:5 twist (just confirm with their manufacturer).

yup, that's what I meant. so what type of rounds to you shoot and how far out is normal for you to shoot with it?
Depending on bullet and what you’re tryna do. 400-500yds isn’t hard but it is really slow at those distances. Iirc I’ve been 600yds with 110gr. I like 200gr+ subs and 1/7twist and stay 300yds and below. Suppressed in a bolt gun it’s stupid quiet, you can hear the impact on a hog over the report.

ok, that's actually what I wanted to know so thank you. I think subs will be the primary food it eats but being able to shoot subs or supers is a big plus. What all bullet weights are used? I guess I could use some of my 308 bullets that I don't shoot anymore
like TGK Sierra 175gr in it for subs or IA there some bullets that do a lot better for subs?
