Looking for actual data from the range and chronograph from shooters using .223 with 68, 75 or 77 grain bullets.

1. What velocities are you getting with these bullet weights?

2. What barrel length are you using to reach these velocitoes?

3. I'm sure that most are using fast twist barrels but please include your twist info as well.

Thanks ahead of time for your response. These answers will prep me for more questions I have formulating in my head.

From the Remington 20" barrel, the 77 SMK will stabilize OK? What distances have you worked with this setup/load?

Re: .223 Shooters w/heavy bullets

Savage 12 1:7 26 inch tube
77 SMK's at 3000 fps with varget
80 grain smks at 2900 fps with varget.
Both loads are right out of the Sierra manual.

The 80 grainers are slower but take 1/4 the windage of the faster 77 grain load despite what the manual says.
I lost enough matches with the 77's to verify this

Re: .223 Shooters w/heavy bullets

Savage 12FV 26" varmint 1:9 twist, Hornady 75 gr Amax, 23.4 gr Varget, 2900 fps. I bought a box of 600 of these off CheaperThanDirt for like $91. So, in bulk they are cheaper than using 55-68 grain match bullets in the 100 packs.

Re: .223 Shooters w/heavy bullets

BAT 3L f-class rig, 30" true-flite 5R barrel, 8" twist. 80gr Nosler HPBT, 25.8gr Varget, Lapua brass, CCI 450 small mag primer, 20thou off lands, 3000fps at 20deg C.

Tight chamber, lapua brass, long barrel makes this possible - and this barrel will give me probably 1500 rounds before it gets replaced.
