Considering a light-weight build and curious to know what other people are doing. Thinking of a Manners folder and Proof barrel but I don't see anything on Proof's website with a fast enough twist to run 88-95 gr bullets. Also what are you guys using for an action?

I picked up a few Xcaliber pre-fits because they're on sale right now, one being a 20" 7 twist 224 valk and all for my Bighorn Origin. If you do indeed want a Proof, I'd call first and check because they do have twists for different calibers available that aren't or weren't listed.

You should make sure whoever chambers it they have a reamer designed for a bolt gun so your bullets aren't jammed down in the case. Here's my 26" Keystone Accuracy GM 224V barrel chambered to shoot 88-95 in a bolt gun for max case capacity.

I am doing an ultra light .223 build on a titanium Fuzion Lone Peak Arms action. Proof 7 twist 20” sendaro contour. AG Composites stock. Murphy precision titanium rings and Surgeon bottom metal. Shipped to LRI yesterday.

Will be interesting to see what kind of velocity you get with that factory ammo.

224V/88 ELD on the right loaded with the boattail/bearing surface junction just below the bottom of the neck for .110 freebore reamer getting 2800 out of a 26" 7 twist button barrel in an Origin as well.

Proof does do a 20" 1-7 so if I go that route I may just skip the 95 gr and just shoot factory 88-90 gr.

Mile High finished mine up a couple weeks ago. Almost the same as Frank's. Origin, 26" Bartlein LH GT, Triggertech Diamond flat trigger, MPA Comp Chassis. Waiting on dies, so I just picked up some cheap American Eagle 75gr and was very pleasantly supprised.

Not about loading longer or anything

You can get MDT223 mags and modify them a bit to work, but from my initial look it appears the Alpha 308 mag will work.

I have not taken the rifle out yet and only feed tested it here.

I will have it out this weekend, weather and work, can't shoot everything

I’m waiting on an x caliber barrel, but was curious what everyone is using for mags. I saw MDT came out with 6br mags do you think those would work well? I’ll be using an arc nucleus in an ai chassis. Appreciate any insights.

This should answer that question for you. 14rds of 224 Valkyrie loaded long at 2.53" COAL in the mag feeding like butter in an Origin....showed you slow and fast bolt manipulation

Guys

I shot mine a bit during the class, the gun is a hammer. Fritz at MHSA builds a helluva stick

Using the Alpha 308 mag I can fit 14 rounds in, and it feeds, there were a could hiccups, you have to make sure the rounds don't load funky but if you tap it back and go, it works.

Yes I get it 13 rounds in the video, but it will fit 14

I think I moved the feed lips a hair closer to each other. Nothing crazy. It feeds beautifully

I just picked up one of the MDT 6br. I haven’t tinkered with the feed lips (about .400) but the rounds nosedive pretty good. The follower seems pretty prone to tilting down in front. Do you think adjusting the feed lips in would help or any other suggestions?

yes. open front half of lips slightly so the nose of the round is angled up. thats all i did

I can’t load the video for some reason, but here’s some pictures of what I’m getting initially.
Having the same issue with the 2 I just got, completely nosedived the rounds after the first few fed and were almost vertical tip down in the mag. Got a match this weekend so just gonna run my unmodified aics mags and tinker with these things later

Same, just gotta tinker with shit until someone makes an actual mag for the cartridge. Not much else we can do until then right?!

Haha, yea. And I'm trying to run 6br in it, not even valkyrie
I'm not sweating it though, a little tuning and tinkering and theyll be up and going, just not messing with it right now

Please report what you end up doing as it will probably correlate to the valkyrie cartridge too. I started playing with it and almost thinking the spring is too weak to keep pressure on the rounds. 5 rounds seem to be GTG but more seems to lose the force of the spring kinda like a high capacity pistol mag.

As you can see in my video above, I'm running 14 rounds with 90s long no problem. All I did was use the mpa mag lip adjustment tool and opens the both sides of the front of the feed lips slightly to allow the front of your case just slightly angled up and that was it.
6br I had to do a little tweaking the feed that Curtis but in my tl3 it feeds like butter without any adjustment.

I'll start there, see how it does, may do some really light sanding/smoothing on the follower as it seems to stick some

In terms of 6BR is it better to use the MDT mags or AICS mags and install a kit like what Patriot Valley makes to modify them?

Could you post taking apart the mag and what you do as far as sanding goes? It’s hard for me currently to give mine a fair assessment not having my barrel and seeing how it functions in a real environment . Pushing the rounds out by hand is ok, but def would be better in an action since it’s not consistent. I did notice a rattle of sorts with 10 rounds loaded, but not sure if that’s normal or not. I’ve only messed with mag lips in 308 mags for 6.5 etc previously so not knowledgeable about trying the wrong cartridge in a mag built for something else.

I don’t think anyone knows yet since it’s experimental at this point. We’re trying to use a mag for a different cartridge that we think/should be close to what would work for this cartridge.
