Hey Guys,

Jus tlooking over this thread again to make sure that I didnt miss it, but <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="color: #3366FF">if anyone is neck sizing Win Brass</span></span>, I would like to know the size.

My bud is using 0.290, and I saw someone using 0.289 for Rem brass.

I have everything to load up, just not my bushings, so I cant get an accurate measurement. Would like 2 thou tension. Also a fired case OD so I can see if I need another bushing to step down the sizing.

That's great news, thanks for sharing that. I was really hoping to get 2900 fps or more out of it. I ran the numbers in JDM and damn it looks good. Of course I'm coming from a .308 and a 175 SMK so that 130 gr. at 2900 fps looks like a hot rod to me! I still havn't had the barrel threaded and screwed on but when I do I'll be looking for the 2900 mark.

From my 26" barrel using the 130gr Hunting VLD, I get 2920fps with 44.0gr H4350 and 2975fps with 44.5gr in virgin Lapua brass.

130gr Norma Goldens run about 25fps slower with the same charge.

It should be mentioned that the load Ring referenced is:

berger 130vld match
nosler 7-08 brass
wolf lr primer
H4350 @ 45.9
Col @ 2.880
This same load in rem brass was 15ish fps slower. Also they both shoot very well.
This is .010 jump in my chamber which is the tac/match reamer.
Both of these(nosler and rem brass)have given low es and sd.
You may also find that a bc adjustment is required at 3000fps.

43.5gr of H4350 and a 130 JLK was right at 2900 fps. This load is an absolute laser and shot great at 600 and 1000. OAL is right around 2.890 so I've got Accurate Mags with no binder plate, however, I can't get consistent feeding.

I did have the the 140 Amax up around 2880 without any pressure so I'm going to more than likely have to revisit them and get them to shoot as they feed perfect from the mag.

i just put together a very similar load for my .260, 43.5 gr h4350, 139 gr lapua scenars, 24" obermeyer 1:8.4 twist barrel, federal large rifle primers, remington brass, 2850 fps at 65f at 443 ft elevation. very accurate at 100, 300, 385, 440 and 510, coal 2.781. no pressure signs. looking forward to reaching out to 1k next weekend...

Something fishy here, most peopla are lucky to get 2850 with that load...lucky!!

I finally got the barrel threaded on both ends and screwed on the action last week. Yesterday I went out with the new barrel and zeroed the rifle and put 15 rounds through it at 100 yards. Obermeyer Rem Varmint, fluted, 1:8.4 twist

100 yards: Rem virgin brass, CCI No 200, trim 2.028" (so I could get square case mouths) found 2.843" to the lands so I loaded them at 2.844" OAL (can't measure to ogive with the new bullets) 42.0 gr. H-4350 produced ave MV of 2736 with a low of 2702 fps and a high of 2785 fps. The ES of 83 didn't look good but within those zeroing shots and a group it still produced 1/2" at 100 yds. for one 5 shot group.

So I moved to paper at 300 yards and got the following results, all 5 shot groups:

42.0 gr. ave. MV 2733 fps, ES 36 fps, vertical group 1 3/16"

42.3 gr. ave. MV 2756 fps, ES 21 fps, vertical group 1 3/16"

42.6 gr. skipped since they were all grouping together

42.9 gr. ave. MV 2787 fps, ES 19 fps, vertical group 1 11/16"

43.2 gr. skipped

43.5 gr. ave. MV 2832 fps, ES 19 fps, vertical group 2 5/16"

after the 43.5 gr. group I started having to dial .5 MIL left and right and .5 MIL up so they wouldn't print on top of each other. Pretty good problem to have!

43.8 gr. ave. MV 2841 fps, ES 26 fps, vertical group 2 11/16"

44.1 gr. ave. MV 2878 fps, ES 29 fps, vertical group 1 7/8"

44.4 gr. ave. MV 2899 fps, ES 48 fps, vertical group 2 3/16"

I never got any pressure signs. Obviously it liked the 42.0 gr once the barrel was fouled but I'm torn with running a sub 1/2 MOA load that only makes 2733 fps, when I can run a .6ish MOA load that makes 2878 fps. I don't know if I should keep upping the powder charge. I'd like this barrel to last a while. I'm gonna try it on paper at 500 yards and see what happens. The barrel has 50 rounds through it now so it should shoot.

Mv avg is 2870

Here is the answer:

Trying to find the COAL that puts you in the sweet spot by moving .002 to .010 will take so long the barrel may be worn out by the time you sort it out if you don’t give up first. Since the sweet spot is .030 to .040 wide we recommend that you conduct the following test to find your rifles VLD sweet spot.

Load 24 rounds at the following COAL if you are a target competition shooter who does not worry about jamming a bullet:
1. .010 into (touching) the lands (jam) 6 rounds
2. .040 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
3. .080 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
4. .120 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds

Load 24 rounds at the following COAL if you are a hunter (pulling a bullet out of the case with your rifling while in the field can be a hunt ending event which must be avoided) or a competition shooter who worries about pulling a bullet during a match:
1. .010 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
2. .050 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
3. .090 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
4. .130 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds

Shoot 2 (separate) 3 shot groups in fair conditions to see how they group. The remarkable reality of this test is that one of these 4 COALs will outperform the other three by a considerable margin. Once you know which one of these 4 COAL shoots best then you can tweak the COAL +/- .002 or .005. Taking the time to set this test up will pay off when you find that your rifle is capable of shooting the VLD bullets very well (even at 100 yards).

These are pretty awesome velocities for a 22" barrel or am I mistaken? I thought these kinds of velocities were only possible from at least 26" barrels especially from factory ammo.

I shot a 600 yd BR yesterday with my 260 Rem. I was using 142SMK's over 38gr of varget. I was only getting about 2665fps, but I still scored a 162 out of this. Plus I got closest to the X, and won a side pot!! Group size was between 4 and 5 inches.

I will do a bit more brass prep work and see where this goes.

The 142 SMK's have run just a bit better when jumped .010-.020 in my rifle.
Will do 1/4 moa if someone else is driving.

What rifle are you running this load through? I just started loading for a new savage LRP and this 44.2 gr load produced .25moa for me. Everything else was .6 - 1.0 moa. Thanks

Lapua brass, Fed 210M, 2.855 OAL. Had some slight cratering on the primers like DBL LUNG had on page one of this thread. Happened to all 50 rounds fired, even some commercial ammo I used during "break in" shots. No other pressure signs. All rounds were single round fed not using the magazine. I am going to shoot this rifle with the 44.2 gr load this Sunday in a 600 yd match and will use the magazine. This may promote better bolt head to case contact and might change things. Thats the only thing I can think to try different.

just tried a ocw work up using 4350 and 142 smk. Had set my max at 43 and never got close. Got to 41.9 and got craters and ejector marks. had been running 42.2 of 4350 and 140 a max with no signs @ 2793. does 41.9 seem like a low charge weight for the 142 smk?

Still getting use to my 260 LRP and believe groups will tighten up some as I get comfortable with the trigger and how much pressure to place on the stock. I found out quickly that this rifle doesn't like it when I load the bipod, t likes the gentle touch. The two 5 shot groups are .3 and .7, the 10 shot group is .82

The rifle shot what I thought was 0.055" off the lands the best. 0.5" vertical CTC for 4 shots, and I think I pulled the 5th shot up to make it 1.7" vertical CTC. The rifle now has 150 rounds through it, so I measured the lands. A 142 SMK hits the lands @ 2.942" OAL = 0.002" throat erosion after 150 rounds.

Did some more testing today and am happy with the results. Rifle is a Savage LRP 260. Components are Lapua 260 brass, Lapua 139gr Scenars, CCI BR primer, and H4350 powder. Groups fired at 100yds, overcast, 68 degrees, light swirling wind.

Most of my shooting with this rifle will be at 600yds. Groups in top picture are very good but I'm worried the velocitiy is to slow for the wind. Will have to test it side by side with faster load to see how it performs.

On the bottom picture, disregard the group on the right since it had one called flyer. The tear at the bottom of the left side group was caused by me when I removed the targets from the cardboard backer.

Got up to 44.5 gr of H4350 and started getting pressure signs with stiff bolt lift.

i get 2830 in a 26" with 42.5 h4350

some barrels are just faster then others...

15 fps faster with 5" more barrel with nearly the same charge. Jax must have a fast one.

I guess I just have one on the slow side. I ran it up to 44.5 gr H4350 and got 2875 fps without any ejector mark, flattened primer or pressure signs.

It could be I'm also off the lands more than most also. I'm roughly 0.050" off.
