3-Gun/Competition AR Questions

Re: 3-Gun/Competition AR Questions

IN my opinion if you are going to use 2 optics you don't need 1 or 1.5 on the bottom end. I think that a good 2.5x10 would be better and an offset mount, not one that rides on top. If you get an offset one you don't have to shift your cheekweld, just the rifle. It is much faster and easier on your zeros also.

Re: 3-Gun/Competition AR Questions

Ideally I'd like to only have to run one optic. I have a 2.5-10x scope on order right now for my Mk12 build. I could easily use that instead, and it would negate the need to build a competition rifle.

I think I'll most likely do everything I can to just stick with one optic. I think a 1-4x or 1.5-5 or 1.5-6x would be fine just as-is.

Re: 3-Gun/Competition AR Questions

That's some big money glass. How about Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20. The 1" tube models can be had for 300ish, and there have been many a rifle stage dominated with a leupold hunting scope.
I'm currently running a Horus Talon in tactical optic. I like the course reticule at 1.1 it's easy enough to see for fast shooting (still nothing like an EOtech). At 4x I run the software and use the graduated reticule for longer shots (I know the shots are relatively short but it takes the guess work out). When I plan a LR rifle stage I do it by Mil holds. If there are too many I'll right them on my hand or sleeve. As my buddy Gabe once said "Don't underestimate sleeve DOPE".
I'm really excited about the new non magnified optic class. For to long the EOtech has fallen behind the variable scopes. As the talent pool gains more depth I'll probable jump over to the new class.
