This is a 4 shot group at 1120 with the 338 ackley improved and fire forming loads, 95 grs of rl33 and 300gr Bergers
Yea the 300 Norma shot a lot better than the 338 did past 1600 which was a little bit of a surpise, we had 6 straight hits at 1920 on a man size target, 89grs of rl33 and 230hybrids at 3050
I also have a 338 lapua Ackley and I am in the process of building a 300 Norma. As David said earlier the 338 beats the shit out of your shoulder with recoil and face with the percussion off the muzzle break but the Norma is a gentle beast in comparison. Also when we shot them side by side I actually think the Norma out performed the 338 granted we were shooting fire forming loads in it.
Scotty, do you happen to know the load data on that 300 Norma, and I agree, the 300 Norma is surprising and impressive. Thanks
The load we were shooting in David's 300 Norma (which hammers btw I posted a pic of a 5 shot group a few pages back at 400 yards basically one splatter mark) was 89gr of reloader 33 with the 230gr berger hybrids out of a 30in tube at around 3150fps. He can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong on fps.
I'm not sure on the case fill on my 300norma or my 300 Norma ai but I will find out tomorrow for you if I had to guess around 90% on the Norma, during load development I went all the way up to 93 gr of rl33 and no pressure signs but I started to get a different poi so I went back down to 89 which was in the middle running 3050, with 215 hybrids I'm running 92grs of RL 33 at 3157
Is it possible to build a 300 NM with a Surgeon 1086R action?
I think a custom bolt might be in order.
My coal is 3.6
230's - 89grs RL33 at 3050
215's - 92grs RL33 at 3150
30" barrel
My other Norma has a 26" barrel
3.6 coal
230's 86 grs retumbo at 3020
215's 89 grs retumbo at 3130
If your ever in Houston give me a should and we can go shoot out to as far as you want, well at least to 3650 anyways, the Norma is badass and probably one of the most accurate guns I've ever shot and the most consistent gun I own, you definitely won't regret building one
Hmmm jamming bullets maybe?Seems heavy bolt lift at 83gr H1000 seems weird, that's not that much not even yellow zone on QL, let alone anything near 60kpsi or the case max.
Hi all any more updates on anyone loading and shooting 300 Norma Mag since these replies?
Cheers
300 Norma

I found a bit of a unicorn (a left-hand long action AX chassis) so I figured now was my chance to build a 300NM and bought it. I'll be driving down to GAP this week to drop it off so they can work their magic. To those who shoot a 300NM, school me on what I need to know. I'm planning to shoot the 215's over RL-33 or H1000 - I've got lots of both. Is Forster the only company that makes dies?
david.how far off land are these 3.60? Im building one using nathan(idahoctd) reamer. My coal is 3.6

I know this has been asked before in this thread, and answered, but not to my satisfaction
What dies are you guys using. The only die maker that I can find that actually lists 300 Norma dies on their website is Forster - and that is only a seater and Full - no neck die. And there is no Forster dealer here in Iceland - not a deal breaker - but make things more diffucult. Very good Norma dealer - so cases are no problem.
Does anyona have a 3 piece bushing die set for 300 Norma?
94.5gr is decent I guess
300 norma mag here. Defiance action, 28" krieger 10 twist, Jewell trigger, grey bull precision stock, defiance bottom, and muscle break to tone the girl down. Rifle shoots better than I can handle, from 5 shot 100 yard (.3-.4) out to 2100 (67 moa). Problem I'm running into is loose primer pockets on only 3rd load. Wondering if I have a chamber problem or if anyone else is experiencing the same? Load is on mild side, 84.5 retumbo, 230 Berger, .005-.008 jam, fed 215's.
I'm not sure it's of much help but I started using cci250 primers and switched to winchester wlrm due to availability. Winchester's were so small i could seat them with my thumb. Found some more cci250s and problem went away.
