Thats a very impressive fps with 250gr

I thought so as well. I was hoping for 2850 so I was happy to get those speeds without pressure signs.

At 2950, I should be able to dial to 2800 + yards without holdovers and a 100 yard zero. Happiest I've been so far with my 300NM. But...still need to see how it groups on paper and what kind of ES and SD I get once I settle on a powder charge.

Not sure if it matters but I have an 8 twist barrel at 28". Barrel was cleaned and stripped of all copper fouling and I shot 5 foulers before shooting the string above.

What brass, primer, and powder are you running?

9 twist proof. Norma brass, cci mag primers and retumbo

Impressive MV's
At what COAL do you run the 250gr A-Tips?

I was set on the 230gr MatchKing for my 300NM load but now I'm seriously considering switching to the 250gr A-Tips. Although more expensive, they seem to be worth it in the 300NM (G7 and MV).

I'll have to wait until I load more to measure COAL. I measure to the ogive and was seating 20 thou off the lands. I never measure COAL but will when I get the next batch loaded up. However, my next batch will be seating depth on paper to check for groups so it will likely change from what I loaded above.

For those that are interested, here is Round 2 with 0.1 grain increments from 85.6 to 86.5.

I think I have decided on 86.1gr. Even though there is a spike, I think it was a fluke especially since the two loads on either side of 86.1 had an ES of 8.

For those of you that are wondering what the inside of an A-Tip looks like, I posted a picture of one of my misses I found on the ground near my target.

I also posted a pic of two hits I made at 2818 yards. I'm pretty happy with the hits given the fact that I was shooting a load workup with different powder charges / velocities.

Those are some really impressive velocities with a 250! And nice shooting!

I must have a slow barrel and/or lot of Retumbo, out of a 28" barrel I can't push 230 grain hybrids much past 2950 fps without running into pressure.

It might have something to do with the bearing surface of the A-Tips. I was very surprised as well as I was running into the same issue with sierra 230s. I'd say give em a try and work up like I did watching for pressure signs. And use good brass.

I just ordered 200 more of the A-Tips. They seem to be shooting well and I'm getting the velocity I want.

This has me optimistic. I never considered A-tips as I didn't figure I would be able to push them fast enough to take advantage of the BC, based on my experience with the 230 hybrids.

How fast were you shooting the 230 SMK's when you found pressure?

Sierra Matchking 230 according to my notes
2970 with Retumbo but settled on a load around 2895
2965 with H100 but settled on a load around 2922

Looks like I'll have the 250s right around 2940 with no pressure signs up to 2970, but no need to go further.

Hello I think we are in the same spot regarding 230 A Tip , I got good groups and hit up to 1600 meters with 86.2 local powder called A19, VO was 2940 FPS always kissing the lands 010 off , CCI primers and I manage some old brass Norma with little loose pockets I never turn back my loads but I think this one was border, maybe slowing 0.1 will do the trick, I also found one A Tip that hit bellow target in an old tire and I can say it was fully stable at that point . I live in Argentina and here I have something similar to R25 but more dirt and shitty, but it s doing the job , I also tried Berger’s and Sierras in the 230 but I can say A Tip are a real winner in my case, here is the picture of my A Tip....I have a question for you guys I m experiencing some ejectors marks but not heavy bolts, primers little flat but acceptable ....do you have same felling that this cartridge seems to give you those readings?

Alright, maybe I missed it but what’s your CBTO?
Of course when loading CBTO is much more relevant than COAL, I’m asking because of magazine length and storage boxes.

Looking Peterson and MTM 50 round boxes so knowing if your loaded rounds stay within 4 inches would help a lot.

Also, that looks like a very handy Excel sheet. Is that something you can share with us?

For 20 thou off the lands, COAL is 3.7855.

Excel is from 6.5 guys. Head over to their website or YouTube channel and you can download a copy. Here is a link http://www.65guys.com/load-development-analysis/

Do you have anymore details on the A tip bullet you recovered? Estimated velocity at hit? what part of the tire did it go through? There are a number of guys testing the Atips out for hunting rounds and that doesn’t look ideal to have the tip bend over instead of expanding.

Ah, so a .225 freebore. Just a bit longer than what Manson Precision Reamers uses with their CIP reamer.
I‘m curious as to what I’ll be able to get out of my barrel with the .215 freebore.

I was shooting in a military base , main target site was an old tank bodywork and in front a metal target of 1 1/4 MOA , in the down part of target there were some old deflate tires with their rins, I supposed the bullet hit the tire as it was flat and inmediately found the Rin and bended, the tip was intact found in the rubber, the VO at that distance 1610 meters was 1293 FPS still supersonic , don t know much on hunting I only do LR, but as I can see it would be easily go through any animal but don t think it will expand ....but really don t now much.

Send brass, bullets and magazine you intend to use to your gunsmith and have him customize your free bore.

Appologies if this has been asked before but I’m new to the forum and couldn’t find the information in previous posts. Has anyone used Reload Swiss RS70, 76 or 80 with .300 Norma Mag?

I’m in the UK and due to rediculous EU rules it’s becoming hard to get US powders hence looking at the RS ones. Have had success with RS52 with .308.

My rifle is a 32” Bartlein barrel, 9.5 twist in a Nesika MT action and AICS AC stock.

Finished my load development. Here are the group results of different seating depths. I’ll stick with 0.030”.

0.020” only had two shots because I had a bad primer.

I Shoot during the weekend 250 A Tip, R 33 87.5 grn VO 2880 26 Inch 1 - 8, they are really good had impacts at 1550 yards, promising bullet with high BC, need to send some 230 in order to see if this heavy ones are worthwhile.

Does anyone know where to find some decently priced 300 NM ammo ? It seems everywhere I look is around 3 - 5 dollars. Maybe this is because it's a newer round? I mean it's still a .30 cal ... not like it's shooting a .408

Hi Phill, I don't have field experience yet as my barrel has not been chambered yet, but after much research I ordered Reload Swiss RS76.
Simulations in QuickLOAD and Gordon's Reloading Tool (https://grtools.de/) look good. 100% burn, pressure seems okay, good fill rates for both Berger 215gr, Berger 230gr bullets.

I have a Proof Research DTSRS 28" 1:8 twist barrel for my Desert Tech SRS A1.
For what it's worth, I'll be using the RS76 in combination with Lapua brass, Hornady A-Tip 250gr bullets and Federal GM215M primers.

@Tekardi may I ask what your COAL and CBTO are?
If I am not mistaken, you have a .215" freebore right? (What reamer?)

Use this table as reference regaring powder and weight, I think Rs70 is your best option

That data is from the older version of QuickLOAD which does not have the new Vihtavuori N565 and Reload Swiss RS76 powders.

Dan Warner acquired the new QL version and was kind enough to run a new simulation for me with the 198gr Flatline in 300NM and there RS76 really shines :)
Of course, for the 250gr A-Tip a different load and OAL is to be used ;)

Can you run this load in your software rgtools seems not to be working , N565 , 198 Warner tool Flatlines, seems 84 to 86 grn could make it but any info will be appreciate it, thanks

New to this. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with brass.
Lapua 300 norma brass new on the left and once fired on the right. That seems like alot of stretch.

Left is a standard case, right is the result of an improved chamber, right? It's shoulder has been pushed forward, the shoulder angle made steeper and the overall case length is probably a little shorter. So it's not so much the case has stretched but rather re-formed to the 'improved' chamber dimensions.
