Question for you all on H1000 loads behind a Berger 215 Hybrid Target.
I recently had a 300 PRC built (Borden Action, Lilja 25” Barrel 1:9 twist. Using ADG brass.)
I called Berger for recommended min/max load data. They said for the 215 min is 80.0 and max is 84.1 gr H1000.
To me, this seems very high. Their min is above the max published by Hornady for both the 212 and 220 gr bullets. I’ve read through most of the 68 pages of posts here...thanks for all the info!! And seems like most of you using H1000 with Berger 215 are ending up in that 78-79gr range. I don’t know that I’ve seen a single post here trying anything above 81gr.

I just bought an 8 lb jug of 565 from Grafs (thanks for tip Steel Head!) for $330.42 delivered. We now have 14 pounds of N565 and should be ready to get through the rest of the year. Now I need to make good use of this boner.
I’ve been lurking here for awhile. Tons of good info in this thread. I’ve been paying particular attention to the hand loads. Hopefully I can get some range time to see what my new rifle can do. Bergara Wilderness transplanted into a MTD ESS chassis. Milled out the base section to still run the 3.850 mags. Vortex Viper pst gen 2 5-25. Atlas bipod. It’s been fun putting together, now for some range time!

I loaded about 79.0 h1000 and 215 hybrids, made about 2980 fps.
Hornady brass tho... was very accurate for me, shot 900 of em
GRC agrees with you, but QuickLoad finds lower pressures and I think that is where Berger load data is coming from. I wouldn't push it.
Thank you! I will be starting lower than Berger’s min for sure. They did say that it was from Quickload and that they haven’t actually pressure tested any of that data.
Not to mention it's ADG brass vs. Hornady. 80-84 gr is more like Retumbo ranges than H1000. The Hornady load data for 212s give a range 70.1 to 78.1 gr of H1000. The smaller case volume of the ADG brass would take this even lower. I would start on the lower end of that range and work up.
That’s a good point. I haven’t done anything with the case volume in quickload or GRC yet. Only fifteen rounds through this guy now.
Just asked them a couple of days ago. They said it's not on their Radar but is has gotten their interest. Whatever that means.
Anyone reloading 300 PRC on a Dillon 550? Trying to determine what shell plate conversion I’ll need. Would it be:

I’m using the 300WM kit. With 230 Hybrids & Whidden dies I have to leave the pin out of the seating station and remove the round after seating. The round is too long, the tip remains in the die once seated.
A little late in the game for testing....but I have a 1 mile and 1000yd tactical comp next weekend. My current loads were giving me too much vertical stringing. Some of that was self induced with fundamentals and I'm working on that. However, I did some quick load development mainly based on neck tension, OAL, and gasp....full length resizing.
First....I'll apologize and say Eric Cortina is not full of shit. At the end of the day my full length sized brass....prepped my way...with 2 thou shoulder bump back....shot much better than my current load or other loads I tested that were neck sized only....both in group and SD measured by MagnetoSpeedV3.
New total round count for barrel is 1034. Powder is Vihtavouri N565. Bullet is Hornady A-Tips 230 grain. OAL is now 3.850. Full length resized with a 2 thou shoulder bump. 2 thou of neck tension and bullets seated with LE Wilson arbor press dies and K&M Arbor Press. All brass freshly annealed. Primer was FGMM 215M's.
Best 5 shot group
Max speed of group was 2952
Min speed of group was 2939
AVG speed of group was 2946
Standard Deviation of 5.7fps
I'll take that on a barrel that has 1000+ rounds of magnum through it.
These shot the best group of the day at 100yds with a size of 0.34".
I had some groups that were 1.1" and you couldn't really call any of them 'the flyer'...like a shotgun pattern.
Most batches had a SD around 7.5fps...and most shot 0.60" or about.
One batch had a SD over 12fps....that was the one that shot the 1.1" group.
After next weeks event....time to rebarrel I guess...but I may be forced to use it a bit longer due to both finances and wait time on work to be done.

I am doing a lot of what he is saying to do and find that Eric's advise is usually on point. With the seating depth, and the sizing and etc. Happy he's putting out the content, the guy obviously know's what he is doing.
Hm good to know you seem to be getting flyers at 1000 rounds.I am at 600 rounds. So I will probably run another 300 rounds of practice. And then rebarrel for the next years NF ELR Match.

I hit 2700 with mine using the recital to hold over. Looking at getting the NF Prism for more ELR funs.
No pressure signs at all with ADG brass and 26” proof carbon

Alamo Precision, 28” Bartlein, 1-9, less than 50 rounds through it. H1000 looks like low 2900 is where it likes.
@DellaDog that barrel will start speeding up just a bit over the next 50 rounds or so. What did you use to measure velocities? I keep wanting to rezero my rifle because I'm shooting high...then realize...duh...I have a MagnetospeedV3 on the end and the shots are deflecting high. After next weekend I'll have over 1100 rounds down the barrel....I'll go shoot a few 5 round groups to measure muzzle velocity and then grouping....this thing can't last that much longer as a competitive ELR barrel.
Labradar. I shot the first 25 rounds at 76 grains and watched the speed build from mid 2800 (2840) to 2900.
Took the next 25 and shot 77,77.5, and 78 to see what speed it liked & about where they plotted.
It's just a test to guess where it'll like speed wise. And I'm guessing low 2900, regardless of the charge that gets me there.
76 & 77 were close to 2900 & plot similarly - and an obvious scatter at 78.
I'm plotting speed really, not charge weight at this time.
(I add 3 clicks and aim at the cross hair diamonds to print in the center circle.)

What are your barrel specs again? I've got a few pounds inbound that I'm going to play with.
30" Bartlein, 1:9. AX/MC. I was using Atlas virgin brass and 215M primers. I look forward to seeing your results.
Just picked up a couple jugs of RL26 to try alongside H1000. I’m guessing back off a couple grains? Maybe 74.4 vs 76 for H1000 & 230 Hybrid?

It depends on what you're trying for. You should be well within acceptable limits, but 74.4 is probably going to get you more than what 76 of H1000 will get you. The load data (at least the sheet I've got) from Hornady is off (to the fast side) on the RL-26 fps estimates. I use 73.4 gr in my 28" Bartlein to get me ~2865 fps. A friend used 74.8 to get about 2900 fps out of a 26" barrel. If you want to bruise your brass and run it like a banshee (like @b2lee does) then you can get to the upper 2900s.
I don't see that. Breaking in my new 300 PRC a couple weeks ago, I was running 73.0 gr and getting 2850 or so in 95 degree heat.
Good plan. Based on other rifle data, I set up a ladder from 76.0 to 77.8 of RL26. I got mild ejector swipe and primer flattening and stopped the ladder test at 76.8.
I have 20 pieces of 8x fired Hornady brass that actually still pass the primer pocket gauge...but won't after Friday. I'll practice some for the 1 mile GBA Nationals and the 1000yd Tactical Division......put a few rounds down range.....I've only ever popped one primer at the loads I'm running. I doubt the primer pockets will pass the gauge on the next check with a load that may push 3000fps with a 230 A-Tip. This week I've prepped my brass better than anything I've ever prepped before. I've weighed everything down to .02+/- grains.....I've volume measured all brass....annealed....every primer pocket is uniformed....deburred....every bullet measured 6 ways from Sunday.
Thus...when I do poorly...it will be on me Actually....I don't expect to do too well with almost 1100 rounds on the barrel once the record targets will be shot. But I will have fun...no doubt.

RCC brass? That’s what I have. Just waiting on my 30” Bartlein barrel to get here
Atlas, first firing. The necks arrived on the tight side so I ran a .3055 mandrel through them. Really happy with my Bartlein barrel.
In the morning I'll make the 3.5 hour trek up North to TVP and shoot in the GBA Nationals. It will be interesting to see how competitive I can be with almost 1100 rounds on this 300PRC Bartlein barrel. Very interested in what my vertical stringing will be at 1 mile....and if I can repeat a 5" group in the 1000yd Tactical Division. Weather is probably going to suck due to the passing hurricane left overs....but we'll all be shooting in the same conditions.
