Hi all!

Im planning ordering a 300wm Reamer for a Custom single shot rifle... NO MAGAZINE LIMITATIONS...

The idea is to shoot 208 AMAX, 230gr Berger Hybrids, 210, 220, etc. (208 AMAX and 230 hybrids) and get the most capacity for RL25
I Know that the bearing surface of each bullet is diferent as well as de tangent, secant or hybrid ogive...

But... a .230"fb its going to keep the boat tail/bearing surface juntion out of the neck/shoulder junction? beacouse i plan to order a .335 neck or .337 maybe, and i want to stay out of the doughnaaaaatttt area...

Any experiences?

Thanks!

I just ordered a .235 throat on my 30-338 Norma Imp. and with 208's you have to seat them out a little bit extra to hit the rifling. With the 230's you have to seat them just below the neck shoulder junction. A 300wm has a shorter neck though so a .235 throat would probably be about ideal for 208's but short for 230's. A 300/338 Norma is 2.5" and a 300wm is 2.62". My OAL is around 3.55" with 230's so yours would be about 3.67" with the same bullets and throat. That would fit in many magazines.

Thanks for your reply!

1- How many more freebore sshould i need for the 230 hyb? or the Hornadys 225?
2- If you have a 300wm case and the 230hyb can you make a dummy round to check? (i live in Argentina and i dont have that bullet yet, but i need to send the prints ASAP)

Thanks again!

I can do it but your better off throating it shorter for the 208's/210's in my opinion. If it doesn't shoot the 230's it kind of screws you up for shooting the shorter bullets and there are a lot more in the 208/210gr range to choose from. If you throat it slightly shorter you are probably giving up at most 1gr of powder capacity worth maybe 20fps because your only talking about .030-.040" difference in the two throat lengths.

I need to use the same bolt face as my 300wm, and i can get 300wby brass... (ammo realy) and turn the proyect to 300 AI

But meanwhile....

What you guys think about the .230"fb for the 300wm?

Gotcha, I just ordered a new bolt from PTG to do a 300 Norma. Let me know how your project turns outs :)

Look at the 30 Goodling. Sid Goodling in Pa makes it. Pretty much a 300 weatherby AI. I have shot one and it was the most accurate gun of that caliber size I ever shot. 3 shots at 100 yards with a 3x9 scope@ .2's. He is one of the best gunsmiths in the country. But has kept his operation small. So wait time for a complete build is like 3 years. Yea, I know crazy, but he is good and knows his stuff. As for launching big 30 cal bullets call some of the pa gunsmith pick their brains. We got a lot of moutain hunters that hunt mountain to mountain and are very good at it. I know one old guy who doesn't shoot at deer under 1k. He hunts ultra long range. I know guys who have taken deer past 1800 yards. It's crazy but they can pull it off. There are tricks to it also. Most are big on spotter shots for wind. Some don't need it....
