I bought some 155 gr scenars to try out in my savage 24". Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find powder these days, so I'm stuck with what I have which is 4064. Does anyone have any load data for this combo. I'm using federal brass and wlr primers. Thanks a bunch.

Hi I did ladder test 36gr to 42gr .5 increment founded good load @
39.5gr imr 4064
Lc once fire brass
Tula mag rifle prime
155gr hornady a max
2.830/2. 835 c o a l
Shot from 10-fcp-k savages 308
100 yds&200yds 5shot each
Hold sub moa ( sorry try send pictures still working on this )
Hope this would help for your start
Sincerely

4064 will generally shoot very well but the pressure signs show earlier than Varget. quickload shows around 45 grains with the 155 at about 60k psi, generally loads with less pressure than that shoot best so just consider that and try not get speed addicted. I believe the IMR load manual shows 47gr. but that just seems impossible to me considering the case volume.

good luck.

I agree with Xcount, I don't have pressure test device, impossible for me setup chrono where range it's
I did see pressure on my load @ 44gr , i don't have varget hard to find , the mandrel ( core ?of my neck die , I did grind It .002 smaller than manufacturer (machinist guy ),wacth when your do ladder test , your have good times
The best for all

The best for all

Using Load data from hodgdons website, i loaded up group tests for each charge in half grain increments, I shoot an AAC-SD in an APO Chassis, I was unable to get any decent nodes with this combination, with the best coming in at 1.1 moa and this rifle will shoot 3/4moa with the 175smk

load data
lapua case trimmed to 2.005
IMR 4064 43-46.5 grs
155 scenar
COAL 2.81

If anyone has any reason why this is not grouping well that would be great, but until then i'm going to try the berger 185's to see if they do better in the 1-10 twist barrel.

I think I might have to test this out for you, really want to try these 155s out and all i have left is imr 4064, I'll get back to you with results in a couple of weeks hopefully.

Just went through a similar, but opposite situation. Was using 175 SMK's from a 1/10 twist and it did well. Bought a new gun in 1/12 twist. No matter what speed, seating depth etc. we used a heavy, it would not shoot.

Went to a 155 scenar around 3,000 FPS in the 1/12 twist, it's shot the best it ever has.

Now if you have a 24" Savage 1/10 twist. I've shot 1,100 yards with a 24" 1/10 using a 175 SMK, Win brass and 44.0g Varget, if I recall around 2,700. You would need to check how much jump you need. Mine liked around .020-.030".

Back off on the amount of 4064 and maybe start somewhere around 42.5.
