.350 cal 7.62x54R wildcat. Does it or could it exist?

Hi all, I have a Barrel blank in .350 cal, a Finn marked MN91/30 action, a spare 91/30 stock and metalware, and am interested in combining them all into a .35 (Whelan level of power) Nagant. Anyone know of a similar conversion or where to start and what you think of a round like that?

Not sure how well the cartridge length or rim diameters line up but it's seems somewhat close to a 35 Remington. .35 rem. Would get you respectable energy from a standard cartridge you can buy dies for that is also a rimmed case. And you can buy it at Cabela's. I don't know what kind of pressure a 35 Remington can handle so it may not get the energy levels you are looking for but it might be fun to play with. You could load .357 bullets for light plinking or heavy stuff for deer. You might want to check and make sure a mosin receiver and bolt can handle the kind of bolt thrust you need for .35 whelen energy levels. Other wise you could have a reamer made for a .35 Russianwhatthefuck and cut some dies with it too. Might be a cool rifle with irons.

.358-74R should give you approximately the same energy as the .358 Winchester. Interesting project.

The 9x54 and 53Rs and 9.3x54R look like pretty mean cartridges. Where do you all go to get reamers and dies made up? I like the idea of firing the smaller projectiles for cheaper 'plinking' esp cast bullets. Not sure what would go best in a 1:14 twist of that calibre?

Nope, have at it! As far as reamers I'm not sure, if the case matches the 7.62x54r you might be able to chamber for that and then bump the throat out whatever the neck thickness works out to. You could also have a reamer made but that seems excessive for a one off.

That's a great idea about just reaming the neck up to size and i can fireform brass then just leaves the problem of dies but assume i could just get std dies reamed up the same?

I think you could do the same thing with the dies, you might check out some of the wierd bench rest cartridges on 6mmbr.com, they talk about how to make wierd wildcats and this would be similar, just a lot bigger. 358 Winchester seems like it would be close in case capacity and performance, might want to see how people load it, I'd still take a careful look at Max case pressures and what is a safe limit for a mosin, some of the old warhorse actions weren't heat treated very consistently and you probably want to avoid having your occular cavity become one with the bolt body.

I think it's going to take a bit of trolling through google to get the comparison. If I were to base it on the .358 Winchester then I've only found it's CUP pressure of 52K and the 7.62R at 56565psi and have yet to find a chart which carries both cartridges with both measurements. 308W is 60K psi indicating it might not be advisable to rechamber a 91/30 in that. Sometimes pressure goes down when calibre goes up. eg. 7mm vs. 8mm Mauser. If anyone knows of a good chart that has both pressure types for both cartridges ie. 358W & 7.62x54R then please point me in the direction?
