Rifle Scopes 5.5-22X50 NF too much glass for a 24" varmint AR?

I hunt in Texas for hogs and predators and on my last trip I used an AR (25 wssm) with a Nightforce 5.5-22x50 NXS (NP2DD reticle). Worked just fine. I had shots as close as 30 yards and as far as 500. I would keep the magnification set at the minimum when scanning and then zoom in when a target was acquired at distance. I scored hits on two hogs that were running flat out (its surprising how fast hogs can be when they are being shot at) about 60 yards out. So even on movers at close range, the scope worked well.

That being said, I have also used lower magnification scopes on other trips and they worked out well too. To me, it doesn't really matter. I'm comfortable with either.

No such thing as too much scope. I myself like higher magnifications. Im putting the same scope on my La Rue upper if it ever comes. Great choice, its not a short range rifle no need for 3x.

I use the Nightforce 5.5-22 x 50 on a GAP 10 and shoot short and long range. You are right that the price is the same on the 50 and 56. The 56 will gather a bit more light in low light settings. I like having the extra magnification to just zoom in on objects that I happen to be just observing. Don't need binoculars in that case. I usually have it dialed in around 15x for things shorter than 400 meters.

I LOVE my 5.5-22 for prairie dogs. So fun. In fact, I can't think of a better varmint getter. I have done coyotes with it, never had a problem but I can see how the 3x would be hand for them.

I almost put a 2.5-10x32 on my MWS.

i ended up with a 3.5-15x50

i wouldn't be mad if it were a 5.5-22x50 instead.

I just use my gun to shoot paper. My experience so far has been more is better. It seems like you already have your mind made up so this is probably not terribly useful to you.

As far as 50 or 56, which has better resale? Personally I have no need for a 56 so I tend to overlook those.
