I like to come in once the hysteria around the event dissipates...I seem to have misjudged the timing by a bit...maybe I should come back later? You just got here to defend a gun with an indefensible design flaw and its creator who covered it up.
Can tell new guy hasn't really read the thread or followed links to other designs that those of us on the Hide know about (and have known about since summer of '19) and were mentioned in this thread. There is definite new tech in those other designs and already proven won't blow up.
It’s not how much pressure to blow it upI read enough of this thread to know I was going to be in the minority. I have seen and heard many other explanations to what the cause and effect of a deleterious round would do to ANY rifle.
How much pressure are you going to design into a gun to safely blow up?
What would you have done to make this rifle safer from a catastrophic failure? At this point the rifle isn't just a concept or out of the box thinking. It's a product in the market that doesn't fail safely. That's a major failure on Serbu's part.
I don't care that it had a catastrophic failure. I'm not blaming the gun for failure. I'm blaming the gun for pretty much guaranteed injury or death upon failure, and that major problem would have come out in the pressure tests had he actually done any... Firearms technology hasn't changed a whole hell of a lot over the past 50 years or so. You don't get to use innovation or new technology as an excuse when the tech is as old as WWII.
The fact that you still don't understand what the issue is....even after it has been explained to you in detail....leads me to conclude you do not, in fact, understand "real engineering"I understand real engineering. I also understand engineering and building concepts that are out of the box thinking. Its what drives innovation and design. How many new ideas have there been presented in the gun world in the last few years...that have taken off? Lets eliminate the same old ideas and just the new ones. The Laugo arms pistol is one...
edit to add...if there had been other Serbu rifles that had catastrophic failures, as this rifle was built specifically for SLAP rounds, then I would be agreeing with everything you all have posted. One failure does not make a pattern. Nor does it suggest the rifle was the issue.
Maybe read the thread rather than make us post everything all over again...What would you have done to make this rifle safer from a catastrophic failure?
Ever heard of vent plugs? Clearly not. And if you haven't you haven't read enough of this thread. Respond back when you have read the entire thread so we can have an intelligent conversation. We will wait.I read enough of this thread to know I was going to be in the minority. I have seen and heard many other explanations to what the cause and effect of a deleterious round would do to ANY rifle.

But enjoy your "out of the box" pipebomb.
Funny, you seem to know more about the engineering than mark....who didn't even know how much force the breech threads could hold...but yeah, other than that, well engineered
Mark subsequently had someone detail how much force was needed to breach the threaded cap and strip the threads...160,000ksi give or take. The damage to the rifle actually exceeded those numbers due tot he depth of all the threads being completely removed.
Does this guy let you gargle his balls for discounts or something? The ears on the back of the rifle were designed to absorb a failure...yet he designed this rifle to withstand three times the pressure of a round.
Clearly, you guys don't think this is/was enough. To each his own.
It hasn't hurt their sales and aren't taking orders, due to a 2 year backlog.
Safety is paramount...I think we can both agree on that.
See you guys next year...I have 14 posts now...do I win something?
@THEISI read enough of this thread to know I was going to be in the minority. I have seen and heard many other explanations to what the cause and effect of a deleterious round would do to ANY rifle.
How much pressure are you going to design into a gun to safely blow up?
...the fact that you find this acceptable is proof you know jack shit about "true engineering"....Mark SUBSEQUENTLY had someone detail how much force was needed to breach the threaded cap and strip the threads...160,000ksi give or take. The damage to the rifle actually exceeded those numbers due tot he depth of all the threads being completely removed.

Well you better give up, he used one of those “hundred dollar words”. It’s over....
I'm so disappointed
You know you have hit the target when all the comments that come back at you are personal in nature and nothing to do with the matter at hand.Does this guy let you gargle his balls for discounts or something?
It’s really weird how you fight so hard for him. If vehicles like mine randomly blew up I wouldn’t start defending the manufacture.
There’s not anything he makes that’s even that special it all looks like shit made in someone’s garage. You going to defend hi-point next?
I won’t lie I bought a hi-point new for $70otd many years ago. I just wanted to see what a $70 pistol was like. It’s hilarious, worth the money just to laugh at when I open the safe.
You sound like a shill and your reading comprehension is bad, I bought it knowing it was shit before you saw them everywhere. I knew I was throwing away $70, but it was only $70 for a novelty to laugh at. You spend way more than that on Serbu, and think it’s awesome.....yeah I’m the putz, and we are the ones with a problem. Yet you’re too thick headed to realize you’re arguing with some guys on here who design and build high end rifles. You know you have hit the target when all the comments that come back at you are personal in nature and nothing to do with the matter at hand.
I have nothing in this fight other than the experience of dealing with the guy and how committed the guy is to this community and the 2nd Amendment. Contrary to your beliefs, the guy does a great job at designing awesome guns...and the fact he is backlogged for 2 years proves that point.
You guys who poo poo him with no merit, lots of speculation and he said, she said comments having nothing on him.
Only a putz would buy a Hi-point, you making my point.
I am surprised so many of you have jumped on the innuendo bandwagon...when so many outside of this forum have reached different conclusions. It must be nice having a circle jerk with so many like minded members, stroking each others ego's, at the detriment of our community and those who make it better by the designs they bring and the support they give.
Mark didn't know the exact pressures when he spoke after the catastrophic event. He clearly misspoke and "subsequently" corrected the error of his words and had an independent analysis done to determine the sheer pressures. He has nothing to hide...and has done everything in his means to make sure they get to the bottom of this. Most acknowledge the round was the problem, except for all the "engineers" here....the fact that you find this acceptable is proof you know jack shit about "true engineering"....
you dont release something to market....wait for it to fail....then do the engineering to make sure it was safe....
that is what we, in the profession, call "gross negligence"...
You sound like a shill.
Your reading comprehension is bad, I bought it knowing it was shit. I knew I was throwing away $70, but it was only $70. You spend way more than that on Serbu junk, and think it’s awesome.
If your reading comprehension was up to par you’d know the answer, I typed it out. For the novelty of it being shit, and to laugh at.My reading comprehension is just fine. Why would you spend any amount of money on any gun, regardless of cost, knowing it was shit? That is some dumb shit there, Bubba.
anything, this accident has taught us not to take our safety with guns lightly...and lately there have been many bloggers using all kinds of weapons in situations which tend to escalate the level of crazy,
I read enough of this thread to know I was going to be in the minority. I have seen and heard many other explanations to what the cause and effect of a deleterious round would do to ANY rifle.
How much pressure are you going to design into a gun to safely blow up?
.....that is the problem....Mark didn't know the exact pressures when he spoke after the catastrophic event.
he didnt "misspeak".....he was wrong by orders of magnitude....and repeated it several timesHe clearly misspoke and "subsequently" corrected the error of his words and
that is something he should have had done BEFORE it was released to the market....and honestly something he should have been capable of doing himself.had an independent analysis done to determine the sheer pressures.
again, you fuckwhit....if you bothered to read the thread, instead of jumping in here to polish off mark serbus knob.....you would know, that we all agree the round caused the gun to blow up....that is not in question. He has nothing to hide...and has done everything in his means to make sure they get to the bottom of this. Most acknowledge the round was the problem, except for all the "engineers" here.
.....that is the problem....

what IS in question, and the reason Serbu is getting shit, is because the gun is not deisgned to fail safely....which is standard practice in engineering for the past 60 years.
the way this rifle is designed right now, is that when it fails, it launches a brick of steel directly back at the shooters face......that is COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE with proper design, which we have actually gone through the trouble of explaining earlier in this thread....
....but you didnt bother to read that did you?.....no, you just hopped in here, and blindly started to fondle Marks balls while questioning the engineering ability of PEOPLE IN THIS THREAD WHO MAKE GUNS FOR A FUCKING LIVING......like actual guns....not the black pipe abominations serbu turns out.
.....but if you were a member here for any length of time...youd know who you were speaking to...and you wouldnt have looked like a fucking jackass.
...you fucking idiot i wasnt even talking about myself...You really put to much faith in who you think you are.
yup...carry on....you fucking idiot i wasnt even talking about myself...
Way to deflect. I’m not mad I’m laughing at you, there’s pages sprinkled with you being butt hurt on here.
If I’m not mistaken that 160ksi number was deboonked. I believe that number was for the same size threads, with full length thread engagement, and torqued to spec.Mark subsequently had someone detail how much force was needed to breach the threaded cap and strip the threads...160,000ksi give or take. The damage to the rifle actually exceeded those numbers due tot he depth of all the threads being completely removed.

you mean we cant trust random Ukrainian engineering???If I’m not mistaken that 160ksi number was deboonked. I believe that number was for the same size threads, with full length thread engagement, and torqued to spec.
Serbu design is 3-4 threads finger tight. Definitely not gonna hold 160ksi
About as trustworthy as any foreign aid businesses dealings in Ukraine.you mean we cant trust random Ukrainian engineering???
So you’re saying it’s completely legitimate, good.....About as trustworthy as any foreign aid businesses dealings in Ukraine.
Heh...I think we actually have someone here on the hide that is an engineer that deals with thread engagement, tensile strength, etc. would like to see what the real numbers are. Might have been @308pirate
If I was a betting man, those 3-4 threads are probably around 70ksi and that rifle design is one hot round away from blowing your face off.
Momentum is a bitchNot only did the threads fail but the 2 "steel ears" behind the cap were sheared off.
Its as though there were no threads and the cap became the projectile shooting through the ears.
I never said you were wrong. From the first pages of this thread you had already made up your mind on Serbu...I can read it in your posts. So much for letting the facts come out before making a call...and as they do come out with the facts, this failure would have happened to basically any rifle...the only difference being, how much damage would it have caused in other makes....you fucking idiot i wasnt even talking about myself...
but
1) you have no fucking idea who i am.
2) you have no fucking idea who anyone else in this thread is.
you have literally no idea who you are talking to....but you just know that we are all wrong?
Actually, that's exactly how engineering is done now. We design with a certain cost in mind based on reasonable safety, have insurance to cover out of norm failures, redesign after someone dies and insurance has paid out....the fact that you find this acceptable is proof you know jack shit about "true engineering"....
you dont release something to market....wait for it to fail....then do the engineering to make sure it was safe....
that is what we, in the profession, call "gross negligence"...
What?Way to deflect. I’m not mad I’m laughing at you, there’s pages sprinkled with you being butt hurt on here.
I give you the answer, but you can’t see it because you’re blinded by your butthurt. You try and twist it because you obviously can’t read, I make a post repeatedly giving you the answer for the third time (if I’m not mistaken) to help your reading comprehension, but I’m supposedly mad......because you spent money on something and we don’t agree it’s cool.
Read that last part again. That’s the definition of butt hurt, it’s what you’re doing. You’ve been arguing for pages for something you don’t have any financial gain in (unless you’re a shill). That’s butt hurt if I ever saw it.
If I was mad at anyone it’s whoever taught you to read.
You know you have hit the target when all the comments that come back at you are personal in nature and nothing to do with the matter at hand.

Troll? Why in the world are you guys wasting time on this troll?
