Can tell new guy hasn't really read the thread or followed links to other designs that those of us on the Hide know about (and have known about since summer of '19) and were mentioned in this thread. There is definite new tech in those other designs and already proven won't blow up.
I like to come in once the hysteria around the event dissipates...I seem to have misjudged the timing by a bit...maybe I should come back later?
I read enough of this thread to know I was going to be in the minority. I have seen and heard many other explanations to what the cause and effect of a deleterious round would do to ANY rifle.
How much pressure are you going to design into a gun to safely blow up?

Mark subsequently had someone detail how much force was needed to breach the threaded cap and strip the threads...160,000ksi give or take. The damage to the rifle actually exceeded those numbers due tot he depth of all the threads being completely removed.
The ears on the back of the rifle were designed to absorb a failure...yet he designed this rifle to withstand three times the pressure of a round.
Clearly, you guys don't think this is/was enough. To each his own.
It hasn't hurt their sales and aren't taking orders, due to a 2 year backlog.
Safety is paramount...I think we can both agree on that.

Mark didn't know the exact pressures when he spoke after the catastrophic event. He clearly misspoke and "subsequently" corrected the error of his words and had an independent analysis done to determine the sheer pressures. He has nothing to hide...and has done everything in his means to make sure they get to the bottom of this. Most acknowledge the round was the problem, except for all the "engineers" here.

the way this rifle is designed right now, is that when it fails, it launches a brick of steel directly back at the shooters face......that is COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE with proper design, which we have actually gone through the trouble of explaining earlier in this thread....

If I’m not mistaken that 160ksi number was deboonked. I believe that number was for the same size threads, with full length thread engagement, and torqued to spec.
Serbu design is 3-4 threads finger tight. Definitely not gonna hold 160ksi
And I’m no engineer but, I believe that in proper threads/engagement length the failure point is usually at the start at the threads, at the thinnest point and pulls apart there. The thread/nut connection is supposed to be stronger than the tensile strength of the bolt itself.
I think we actually have someone here on the hide that is an engineer that deals with thread engagement, tensile strength, etc. would like to see what the real numbers are. Might have been @308pirate

Not only did the threads fail but the 2 "steel ears" behind the cap were sheared off.

I never said you were wrong. From the first pages of this thread you had already made up your mind on Serbu...I can read it in your posts. So much for letting the facts come out before making a call...and as they do come out with the facts, this failure would have happened to basically any rifle...the only difference being, how much damage would it have caused in other makes.

Actually, that's exactly how engineering is done now. We design with a certain cost in mind based on reasonable safety, have insurance to cover out of norm failures, redesign after someone dies and insurance has paid out.
