6.5 Creed and 140 Hybrids

I know there's a lot of info out there, just not in one place. I want people to post their 6.5 creed loads with 140 Berger Hybrids with H4350 and OAL or jump to lands. Trying to see if there's a general area they like to jump.

I can really only get to 2.87 reliably with my currant mags but that puts me about 50 thousandths out and I just don't know if I'll be able to go any closer without changing mags. My gun runs AI mags way better the AW's so that's why I want to stick with AI's.

Ok, I got some loaded up. 42.4-43 right now and all are loaded to 2.88

May have to go higher to get pressure and velocity I want, but if it shoots 2750 or better and will stay under 1/2 moa I will be happy. I'll let y'all know how it goes Sunday. FYI, chamber is 2.93 to lands so its about .050 jump right now

Not a creed, but I run 140 hybrids in my 260 at 0.060 jump with no issues. I seated the longest bullet I could find at 2.870 to fit in an AICS mag, measured the ogive, and used that as my seating depth. The load shoots just under 1/2 MOA at 100, and holds 0.6xx MOA at distance (probably more me than the rifle).

Ok, so loads listed sucked....kind of. I tried shooting from a rest and it was unnatural and uncomfortable to me. Best I could muster was 3/4 moa with all loads 42.4-43 at 2.88

I don't know if groups sucked because of me or the loads so I'm pretty much starting over. I had 2 slow ones with the 42.6 so my vertical was dropped but group was really tight so I'm going to play with it some more but I'm going to try it again at 2.88 and 2.87. I'm also going to try 43 again except .020, .030, and .040 off as it originally had the least vertical but grouped sucked, 3/4-1 moa maybe so hopefully seating depth will tighten that up fast.

Velocity is good with all loads though and just starting to see flattening of the primers barely but no gas leak or ejector swipes. It was 85 degrees yesterday so I'm confident it won't spike or create issues unless it gets over a hundred here which doesn't happen too often. Velocities ranged from 2790-2830, a magneto V2 was used for chronoing. I would really even be happy with a low mid 42 node so it will save my brass. Even the 42.6 load was giving me 2799 average so that's still 50fps faster then my 140 Amax load and higher BC of the 140 Hybrids should put me nice at 1000.

Either way, advise is very welcome, this is my first time truly diving into reloading and load development. I'm trying to stay calm and not get frustrated but patients eludes me.

After several years of shooting either 142SMK or 130VLD in mine I will be switching to the 140 Hybrid so I guess I am starting over too. Hybrids are supposed to be more jump tolerant than the VLD and my gun has always been a laser so I hope it isn't too hard to get a load worked up.
If it was as easy as working up the 6 CM with 105 Hybrids then I will be lucky. Took no work to get it done.

This is great for shooting the 140 hybrids but if you want to shoot any factory hornady ammo with 140 amax's i would advise against it because it has them jammed a pretty good bit into the lands. They still shoot really good but there is a very noticeable increase in recoil.

Yes, the profile of the Amax and hybrid are very different. I think the Amax is about .050" jammed into my lands with this chamber, like I said they still shoot great but the extra pressure from being jammed causes a drastic increase in felt recoil.

Interesting... I'm getting ready to order a 6.5CM barrel to rebarrel a Savage bolt gun. I had read numerous people say they had their barrel throated a little longer for 140gr bullets, but after reading this thread, sounds like that may not be something I want to do. I may start out shooting box ammo, but, assuming I can actually find some 140gr Hybrids, that's what I want to eventually move to shooting. I have a few friends shooting creeds and 260s that swear by the Hybrids...

The hybrids are awesome, it would not be hard to get them shooting in any reasonable chamber for any 6.5 that has the capability of pushing them 2650+

Well, tested several loads again today. Was frustrated and was ready to sell my gun and all my reloading components until that last test group. All loads shot 1"-1 1/2" except for my last batch and they shot 1/4" for 5 rounds, so I very relieved. Load was 43.2 of H4350 @ 2.91 in modified AI mags (.020 off lands). I'll try to get a few pics up. Velocities are averaging 2828 per a Magneto V2.

I know it doesn't say alot at 100 but I'll test that 43.2 at 300,500,and 900 to see how she does. Be back in about two weeks with an update.

Mine hasn't shot good with anything except .020
Its definitely true, every rifle is different. That last group I shot was teeny tiny, the kind that makes you really smile. If it shoots at distance, I'm gonna have a significant ballistic advantage over the factory loading I was running.

Everything just came together I guess. This is one of my first in depth endeavors in reloading and it amazes me at the smallest changes you can go from a shotgun pattern to 1/4" group. I'm going to test same load again at 100 to confirm then at distance.

Sure they werent screaming fast but I was after accuracy during development. The high bc of the hybrid peaked my interest but there are others out there that may not be as picky in your rifle. Im gonna guess youre getting pressure signs at 43.2 and might trash your primer pockets after 3-4 firings.

A slight flattening of primers and a little case swell but not enough to create a sticky bolt, still very very smooth. My barrel is Melonited and I've heard that can decrease pressure so that may be a contributing factor. I've tested in fairly hot weather. First time testing was high 80's and today was around 80 as well but overcast. I would probably only see significant pressure if its over 100 and this area rarely sees that.

I have not tried anything below 42.4
My goal with this gun was to be fast and accurate. I intended to hot-rod it from the get go. The ballistic advantage I've reached over my Amax load is pretty sweet. If mid 42 load would have worked out I definitely would have ran with it knowing my brass was better off but this barrel just seems to be more picky then most.

Old load: Factory Amax 2746 Average .584 BC

New load: 140 Hybrid 2830 Average .618 BC

That's very significant, so if I only see 3-5 firings per case, the ballistic advantage is worth it to me, it may not be to others though.

I am running 42.8 H4350 with a velocity of 2830 fps and I don't have any pressure signs at all. I am on my 7th firing of a lot of 200 pieces of brass and I have only had to toss 4 pieces due to loose primer pockets. I'm pretty sure those were pieces that I used in load development and ran them HOT ~2920fps. I have only annealed after the 3rd firing. If I can get 10 firings out of the brass I will be very happy.

I'm loading 42 gr of H4350. Seating 2.215 at the ogive which is about .050 off the lands.

15 rounds at 100 yds from a bipod and rear bag.

5 rounds at 500. Bipod and bag.
