I just finished building a Grendel. I'm finding it difficult to find recent load data for this thing. I'm not really sure where to start. I think I will be using the 123 ELD. I have a 20" 1-8 barrel. Where do I start with powder? Any advice would be helpful!

Thank you!

8208xbt or cfe223 are the most popular for 123gn bullets. I use 28.0gn of 8208xbr for 123gn scenars. Max is supposedly around 28.5, and there are reports of 8208xbr pressure spiking suddenly in the max range, so work up slowly. There's lots of reloading info at the Grendel forum, and a couple of the guys there have published a couple of small books with reloading info specific to the Grendel. Ammoguide also has Grendel load data..

Mine likes 27gr of AR Comp under both Sierra 120gr Matchkings and Nosler 120gr Ballistic Tip bullets. Both sub MOA and almost same POI. Gotta love target and hunting close to the same. Just a slight difference in BC. I haven't had a chance to stretch this load out past 100 yards yet. Good Luck.

32g of CFE with the 123 ELD-M and a CCI 450 primer is my load. It is compressed but shoots extremely well. It chronos 2520 out of my 18" barrel and 2360 out of my 12.5" barrel. I took my SBR Grendel out to 1000 a couple weeks ago. Multiple hits on 18" steel plate wth 44 minutes of elevation. Very cool!.

AR-comp, cfe-223, and tac are good choices, just remember to use small rifle magnum primers because your working on the far end of what a srp will ignite consistently. If you doubt this, try both over a chronograph and see which one offers the smallest SDs with any given load.

What is port size?
20" barrel so I'm going to guess that this is a rifle gas system, correct?
Rifle or CAR buffer? If rifle, then 5.9ish oz buffer whereas if you are running a CAR buffer it can be anywhere from 2.9 oz for a standard CAR to 5.6 oz for an H3.
What chamber is in barrel? Original 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Grendel II, 264 LBC or ??? Differing amounts of freebore and different lead angles, will have an effect what you can load.
What brand barrel?
What load you'll be able to run is going to depend on a lot of variables, only a small portion of which I asked about above.

Load that runs like a raped ape in my 21", rifle gas system, rifle buffer setup is not very good in my 18", mid gas, H2 buffer rifle. More data needed from you on rifle configuration to be able to give you any useful information.

Gas port: .093
Rifle length tube
CAR buffer, I want to say it's the H2 4.6 oz
Grendel II
Faxon match series

I'm not a huge fan of ball powders so I'd suggest starting with 8208 @ 26.8 and working up until you see desired accuracy / velocity without any pressure signs. I'd guestimate you'll end up 27.5 to 28.2 when all said n done.
I'd also suggest that you put in an H3 - 5.6 oz or a 9mm - 5.9 oz, or slightly heavier buffer from Slash. Port @ 0.093 is what most 20", rifle gas system 223s have and you'll be running more powder which means more gas volume so a heavier buffer or an adjustable gas block (maybe both) would be a good idea.

I have had good results with CFE223 and 8208XBR under 123 SST's.
CFE223 under 129ABLR. I have been developing all of my loads with CCI 450's
and Rem 7.5's. Go up in no more than 3/10ths increments. High strung
little cartridge, but seems to perform all out of proportion to it's size.
My bbl. is G2
