6.5 PRC

Can’t wait for my PRC.
- CarbonSix 24” 7tw Magnum contour
- Area419 Sidewinder
- ARC Nucleus
- Manners PRS stock/MPA Comp chassis
- 7-35x ATACR or Gen2 Rzr

We all need to get together and pressure Alpha Munitions to make 6.5 PRC Brass!!

Our 6.5 PRC finishing reamer is in from JGS. I’m planning on smoking my 6.5 SAUM barrel and going with 6.5 PRC.

Just was thinking out loud, of the goal was a round that fit into a SA, used a common bolt face and crowded the 3150 speed limit, shouldn't it have been a 6PRC?

Maybe with less pressure with a 6PRC, but most of the 6's with a 308 bolt face will do 3150. I'm getting 3172 fps in a 28" in 6x47L and it's not a hot load.

6.5 Saum is the next cartridge up in my arsenal, which sends 140's the same speed. I wish I had a faster twist on it so I could shoot the new heavy 6.5's though!!!

Sounds like a badass build! And yes, I agree we all need to be pressuring brass makers to support the PRC. I have already sent emails to Alpha and Peterson asking about it, as well as Forster and Whidden concerning dies. Unfortunately, they all replied "not at this time" but that could change with demand. Lets keep it up!

I keep posting on Alpha’s social media to make 6.5 PRC. They’re not going to make that brass until there’s a following behind it. Something like creedmoor was a no brainer for them. We all need to get together and make PRC a no brainer. I think Alpha would be the most willing brass manufacturer to get behind it. They seem more in tuned to shooters and their demand.

I plan to run the 150s. Already have 1k on standby. I am kind of interested in seeing how fast I can send a 130. I’m a little worried a 24” 7twist is too fast but when I run the numbers it seems to be stable.

If I get 2 or 3 loads out of it I’m happy. I retire my Lapua after 10 in 308... I know it will go twice the mileage but I don’t mind buying brass. Or barrels ???

I am new to this forum, but I have owned a 6.5 Extreme (based on the 300 RCM) for several years now. It was developed by Laverne Lundgard. It is almost the exact cartridge as the 6.5 PRC. The PRC holds one more grain of water (71.8) than the Extreme. My gun was built by Jim Borden using the Timberline action. Laverne and I have found that Retumbo is the best powder for our cartridges. You can see 19 loads we have developed on Ammoguide.com. All loads shoot .2's or better as I recall.

Thought I would post these loads for my 6.5 Extreme, which is almost exactly the same as the 6.5 PRC. These are examples and should be used only as references. Borden Timberline action. Hart #5 barrel 8 twist. All loads except the Barnes 130 are seated lightly into the lands. Hope this info helps.

Defiance / 28" bartlein w/ .130 freebore, 147's @ .030 off.

54gr RL26 @ 2900 FPS
55.5 RL26 @ 2990 FPS
57gr RL26 @ 3060 FPS.

Only 8 rounds through the gun so far so I'm sure things will speed up, but no ejector marks, flat primers, heavy bolt lift or any issues at 57gr. Shouldn't be too bad off of a barricade, and should be a monster shooting prone. Definitely need to wear double ear pro with the 419 brake, it's LOUD.

I'm helping my boss put together a PRC hunting rig that should be pretty sweet.

Defiance Deviant Ultralight
Proof 26" Sendero contour barrel
XLR Carbon Chassis
TriggerTech Special trigger

Should be a pretty sweet rig once it's all put together, and not too heavy to pack around. The rifle should weigh right about 8 pounds before the scope and rings are added, meaning the whole package should come together at or just under 11 pounds.

I was just talking w my smith about reamers and .188 FB is now recommended for the 147/150. I guess the .130 FB jams the longer bullets @ 2.950 OAL

After speaking to Mark at SAC he throated mine to have a .055 jump at factory coal for the 147’s. Apparently they have seen the 147’s respond really well to jump between .050-.070 and .080-.090

Still yet to shoot mine, just overloaded with work and home life. I’m curious to seewhat speeds I get as I was hoping for a shorter jump to increase pressure and maybe get a little more velocity with the factory 147’s and a 22.5” barrel

I know from what guys are reporting on Fb the .130 Fb w factory 147 load has higher velocity but the bolt closes hard.
