6.5 PRC

Ive been using the Barnes Lrx for awhile now and it's been my go to bullet. It's been the easiest to find a load for and always has shot great.

If the CEB don't work out in my saum then I'm just going to stick with the Barnes.

Yea the 127 LRX also work well for me. I just wanted to try something a little heavier. I would love to get a 140, but the CEB 140 is single feed only and I’m still up in the air about having to deal with that for hunting.

Yea, I may just stick with the 127 Lrx unless you realllllyyyy want to try the 130 CEB. So far my experience hasn't been pleasant but I had some left over from my experiments with them in my 6.5 creed and figured they may work better in a larger case because they take up a ton of capacity.

She’s ready, hopefully she does more then 2900 with the factory stuff because I’m not reloading

I have both a 6.5cm and a 6.5prc. the 6.5cm is 24" barrel and shoots hornady factory 140gr ammo at 2688fps (i think this is a little slow as barrel isn't broken in yet)

6.5prc 147 factory horandy ammo is 2942 (barrel also is brand new with less than 50 rounds down it)

Unless you can get a 6.5cm to shoot a 147gr bullet at 2900fps then the PRC is much faster then 50 fps over 6.5cm. Also note that in my test the 6.5prc is shooting 147gr bullets, not 140. I have found not only to be accurate but with Horandy factory ammo i'm getting and SD of 15. Pretty good in my book.
I have had good results with the 147gr out of my CM. I am reaching those speeds with low SD and ES

Anybody else doing a 6.5 PRC in a medium length action? I have a Defiance Deviant Tactical in XM length for my PRC build on order. Thinking 7.5 twist for 150 SMKs and whatever Berger ends up giving us...155 or 156 EOL hybrids.

Are those the ARC .94" low rings? Looks like you've got about a 1/16" of clearance.
Yes they are the low rings, I can’t run a cap on it it’s so low but it’s a little more clearance then pictures make it look.

is that a mark5 with 56mm obj lens? what profile is your barrel? 20moa or 30moa rail cant? I ordered a m24 profile 24" from PVA (barreled action), and would like to go ARC M10 rings, not sure which height will fit. hoping mine will come with 30moa rail. Gonna be putting a Razor HD2 4.5-27x-56mm.

thanks!

Took my hand loaded Hornady ELD 147 @ 3110 FPS out to 1k yesterday. Shot about 50 rounds most between 600-1k yards. Hands down this is my most accurate rifle/load combination in my safe. We have a official IPSC silhouette AR-500 target at 1k and it was just stacking bullets center mass in the paint splatter. Looked like fist size groups in the spotting scope. 6mil elevation and .5 mil windage first round hit center mass. Loving the 6.5 PRC

Im sure w factory ammo and slow fire. His handholds sounded a little warm. I have a load I'm using RL-26 147 @ 3110 w room to spare but it is over book max. No pressure signs.

Here is a thread using factory Hornady Match 147’s. Granted it is from a 28” barrel but it’s also with only 80 rds down the tube and I’m hoping it speeds up from 2960 to be around 3k fps. Accuracy was good as well. Had a lot of .5 groups and then a few .3-.4’s. Distance I was happy with groups as well and vertical for the factory ammo. http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/impact-6-5-prc.6901898/

Ran to different lot numbers of factory 147gr eld match
Average velocity
2960 on one
3080 on the second (this is the lot I bought a case of). These numbers were recorded with a lab radar. 28in mtu 1-8 twist barrel

I shot yesterday and my barrel sped up again. Im just over 300 rounds and thought my handholds sped up with a different lot of RL-26 but than i had a partial box of factory ammo which i tested at . 2880FPS @ 1 , 2960FPS @ 180 , 3060FPS@ 300 rounds. 147 handholds now at 3150 FPS

Defiance XM bottom metal. I read Defiance was coming out w XM mags but I haven’t seen them yet. Not sure it your running a stock or chassis but I believe most chassis won’t work w the XM action. Call Defiance and ask them to be sure.

New here. Decided this (SH) is the best place for the 6.5 PRC info and results.

I pulled the trigger on an MPA 6.5BA/SL in 6.5 PRC.

MPA FDE Competition chassis
Curtis Custom Axiom action, 3 lug bolt, West Texas Ordnance Switch Lug
MPA 26" SS 1:8 barrel (baseball bat of a barrel)
MPA Muzzle Brake (Omega 30 in house)
Trigger tech set at 22 oz.
Vortex Razor HD 5-20 with .96 Vortex Match Rings - Not front scope cover for me.
Empty weight at 16# +/-

Break in ammo is Hornady Match 147 (bought a case)

Shots off bipod and rear bag.

This rifle in the current configuration has less recoil than any of my 6.5 Grendels (two different types of brakes, can, 18 - 24" barrels). Just the back blast from the brake sucks.

Crono with a Labradar
ETA -
Stats - Average 2921.54fps
Stats - Highest 2988.9fps
Stats - Lowest 2894.12fps
Stats - Ext. Spread 94.78fps
Stats - Std. Dev 22.88fps

I shot two, 5 round groups for accuracy after the 20 round break in and scope zeroing, and managed a .41 group (using Range Buddy app - Have On Target at home) if you pull the flyer that bumps it out to .68 - which is about the extent of my abilities. The other 10 rounds I sent out to 300 and 800 to verify the Hornady DOF based off 2910fps. More testing to come.

Reloading will happen, need to gather powder and bullets. Sitting on 1k 130 ELDs for my Grendel, I may try some of those.

shot my 6.5prc over the weekend getting it zero'd for hunting season...both factory 143s and 147s were easily 3/4 moa from a RRS tripod @ 100. was surprised to see the speed difference between the 2 tho

only 20 rounds down the 22" proof carbon so far, but the 143s were 2850, and the 147s were only 2730...curious to see how much/when it speeds up

My load development day over the weekend netted me a nice RL26 load to work with in a nice velocity node, and either my LR has twitched, or my rifle picked up 75fps across the board.

Hornady 147 Match ammo now averages 3010, and my RL26 load is averaging 3026 with way better ES/SD (17/6.2).

Hopefully you will get into the mid 2900s on both.

On my 187 comment....I ended up calling about that action, it sounds like it is like a medium action with a rem short action foot print.....there will be a magnum bolt face option later this year or possibly beginning of 2019.

How good is Alamo? I’ve tried contacting them and all I got was a busy signal. I really like the looks and options of their actions, very basic look but full options at a great price.
What’s the build specs of your rifle they’re building for you?

I seen on their IG that their phone lines are down for over a week. I haven’t got my rifle yet but I have only heard great things. I didn’t get their custom action.
My rifle components are:
Lone peak fuzion TI
McMillan hunter Sonoran carbon
Bartlein 3b 24”
Harrels radial break
Jewell trigger
Their bottom metal with Wyatt’s extended box

They also have a custom reamer which gives you a freebore of .1635 allowing you use factory Ammo and still chase the lands

Sorry I’m pretty inexperienced with the whole freebore deal, so if ya could excuse my ingnorance. I’ve tried figuring it out by looking on cartridge prints but idk how to figure out what freebore should be for cartridges and bullets, I know what freebore is, just don’t know how to figure out what freebore a person needs for certain bullets ect....
So I heard sammi spec being .130 at one time and .188 another and I had read the .130 was too close for factory ammo and .188 was too far for a short action using factory ammo because I think it had like a ~.050 jump into the lands. Now on another forum they were saying that with the .188 you need a long action when you had reloaded to chase the lands because the OAL was going to be too long for loaded rounds to fit a short action, so did I comprehend that right?
Now to my ignorance questions for you or who ever else. With the .1635 freebore how do you figure out what you OAL will be with say 143-147-150+ grain bullets and will that keep your loaded rounds short enough to fit in a short action and long enough to get 3000fps with 143-147 grainers and not have to jump a long way? More or less the .1635 is a great happy medium?

Im running a short action w .188 reamer and factory 147 shoots .25 inch at 100. I run my hand loaded OAL w 147 eld at 2.950 and the accuracy is unbelievable out to 1k. Hornady and George nailed it w the .188 reamer and 147 in a short action.

This is w 147 Eld w virgin brass. Factory ammo has sped up to 3040 fps after 300 rounds. First round out of my rifle w the same box of 147 was 2890. Don’t give up on your rifles. I can’t remember ever having a barrel speed up so much!!

So in your opinion what does the .1635 accomplish? How far is your loaded rounds jumping to get to the lands?

That’s also with a 28” barrel too, right? One of my rules about magnums....to get the best performance out of them don’t go under a 26” barrel.

I guess you have to figure what bullet you want to run. Factory 147 ELD ammo seems to shoot well under .5 MOA in every report i have read. I set my rifle up for the 147/150.

APR is legit. They’ve been having phone issues. My 6.5 CM from them shoots 1/4” groups with my skill level. I’m going back to them when I do a 6.5 PRC build.

We’ve just released our Extended M5 bottom metal that allows OAL 2.95” . Our design shares the same footprint/inlet of standard M5 but we shifted the mag well back 0.100” (patent pending) to allow reliable magazine feeding without having to machine/notch the feed ramp. Feeds very smoothly as the change in geometry allows a more favorable angle for the round to enter feed ramp/chamber as the bolt strips the rounds from the mag.
