6.5x47 lapua out of a 20" barrel

Re: 6.5x47 lapua out of a 20" barrel

I have an 18" barreled 6.5x47 lap, was built for a light(ish) weight hunting rifle. I haven't shot anything past 1400 yards, but will do just that once I am back in the states.

123gr Scenar to 2950 and am still well within a moderate load range. 140 Bergers I was still working up a load, left off at 2780 and expect to acheive 2850 safely.

If it was a specific target or long range rifle, I might go with a 26" barrel, but in current form it shows no signs of being sub par by any stretch.

What barrel contour and stock are you using? You've done what I'm trying to do. Have any pics? What's it weigh?

Re: 6.5x47 lapua out of a 20" barrel

When I cut my 260 form 26" down to 22"s I lost right at 60ft per second in my velocity from my original loads. I bumped the load up and was within around 20fps give or take for the new accuracy node. I was happy that taking off 4"s I only lost 60ft per second I was actually expecting a little more.

I think I know what my next rifle will be....oh if I just had more money! Awesome rifle! I've been wanting a .260 or 6.5CM but didn't want to run a long barrel. Nice to know that with the 6.5x47L you can run a shorter barrel! Thanks
