I have a primer question. I am going to load up 100 rounds of 41 of H4350 for my GAP 10 just to get it broke in before dialing in and I don't have any Fed 210's but I do have plenty of Win LR and Rem 9 1/2. What would you go with? I do have some Fed 215's but I don't think i would need that hot of a primer. Trigger is SSA-E.

Has anyone had any luck with putting a little more neck tension on the brass compared to what you get out if the normal hornady dies? Virgin out of the box with no prep seems to work better in my gun. If your using a bushing die what are you using?

Yup, it's the RCBS Nitride, that gold one is a 268 Redding.

Ok I tried the wolf primers in a cases that would not hold a Cci 250 primer and they were decently tight. These were cases that started out with oversized primer pockets to begin with. I did loose around 70fps compared to the Cci 250 magnum primers I have been using but ES dropped to 2fps over 9 shots which is as low as I've ever pulled, at least for any strings of fire more than 3-5 shots. Now to find some since no one locally has them.

So, I just got my Rem 700 back from GAP rebarreled in 6 Creedmoor. Loaded up 100 rounds with 42.0gr of H4350 and Berger 105 Hybrids. I did a break in on Friday and shot the short course on Saturday at TVP. I was clean until target 10 when I dialed the wrong dope. (Argh)



I got off about 10 shots before the match at 100, 600 & 1000 yards to check my zero and get my dope. I ended up at 3.0 mil at 600 and 7.5 mil at 1K. After the match I went back to the 1K shot and it had changed significantly. Now it was 6.6 mil. I guess the barrel sped up. Based on the conditions that works out to 3140 fps.

Based on soft seating bullets to check for the OAL to the lands I got 2.760", so I am loading to 2.755 for now. With the barrel break in the 3 shot group was a small ragged hole (Yes, I know it's not 5 shots, but that will have to wait.) The better measurement IMO is to the ogive, which is 2.157"

The good news on the fired brass is that I get the same headspace reading as I do with my 6.5 Creedmoor brass, so I should be able to use the Redding full length sizing die and just switch the bushings as it's set of a shoulder set back of .002" From 1.440" to 1.438". I have a 269 and 270 bushing coming.

I like the way it shoots and I plan to shoot it in a match this weekend. After that maybe some load tuning if I feel it needs it.

6.5mils or so is my verified 1k yards dope at 3158fps so that's about right as far as velocity. I'm waiting to see how many rounds my buddies Gap 6mm creedmoor tales to speed up. It had about 75 rounds on it the last time we checked it and it still was running a little slower than expected but I'm sure it will pick up here in the next 75 or so rounds.

I had about the same result as the cci 200s when I shot them. I've stuck with the cci 250s since they have provided the lowest es out of anything besides wolf which I only have in a non magnum so I loose about 70fps over the cci 250s. ES runs under 8 fps in almost every case and has been as low as 2fps over 10 shots.

So...in your experience, what is the difference (ballpark) between Hodgdon 4350 and IMR or AA 4350 charge weights?
I used a Richard's Microfit stock and a Whidden v-block.

In my #2 6 Creed IMR4350 and H4350 are running neck and neck with same powder charge. Shot 41.6grs last sunday, Im going to up it to 41.9-42grs to see if the SD comes down, which I think it will.

I thought about playing with a load with h1000 since the 6mm competition match is designed to use it (243 with different neck which is similar to the 243ai). I know it's slower burning but if you're only trying to push them around 3k-3050 ps I think it might work good.

I have ran H1000 in a .243 and .243AI. Both had long barrels (27" and 30" respectively) and it works fine. 105 Hornady HPBTs cold hit 3100 with the .243 and well over 3200 with the AI. It's right on the edge for a .243 as the necks get pretty sooted up due to the pressure not busing fast with H1000. Still ends up dealing but necks get pretty dirty.

Just got word back about my old 6mm Creedmoor barrel (brux) that I had planned on setting back in another action. The rifling is essentially gone :-/ so that barrel is toast. 2500 pretty hot rounds, 2200-2300 of which actually shot great. The last 180 were shot at the k&m match so of course it really didn't matter what I did there was no way to be competitive. I'm going to slow this next one (Bartline) down a little (3100 fps vs 3150+fps) and run coated bullets and see how it does. The performance when it's shooting is worth the loss in barrel life though, at least imo. I'm thinking the next will be a 6mm Slr, just waiting on the reamer to be made.

I don't think dropping 50fps is going to yield much difference in barrels life. Drop 100-150 and maybe then but 50 is doubtful in my mind.

Probably right. In all reality I'll just keep barrels lined up on a few different setups so I'm not stuck with one.

They need more neck tension than the Hornady dies put on them. The force of slamming the bolt in a match caused me to stick a bullet on a stage when I accidentally racked a second one before moving to another position (had to have bolt back to move) mine are seated 20-22thou off the lands so it slid forward a good bit.

My throat moved forward about 20thou from new to toasted barrel. 2300 good shooting rounds, 2500 total befor it became a smooth bore barrel

New AO barreled action came in today so logically I went to do some load development in this hot ass weather. I'm now running bn coated 105gn hybrids and the highest load loaded was running around 3105fps with a 2fps ES over 3 rounds. Time to load some more up, I tested non coated and got about 90-105fps faster. I'm. Guessing that bn coating really slicked up those bullets to drop the pressures that much!

A picture of it in an carbon XLR chassis. It's normally in a manners t5a but I figured I would try the XLR and I really like so it may be coated a different color than the Barrett bronze.

I haven't spoken in depth about having to recoat the barrel after cleaning but do see where some are taking it or a finer grade and mixing with alcohol and after the barrel is clean they run a patch with the mixture on it down the barrel a few times and call it coated and good to go. Some who shoot BR say they will shoot their first shot for record if done that way so I'm assuming it works pretty good if they know the cold bore is going where the rest are. I don't clean my barrels unti they tell me they need cleaning but I guess we will see how these do. It was odd seeing a small white/clearish ring around my shots on paper today instead of a black oil ring though! Also this is just load development time for me and what I'm seeing is of course a drop in velocity due to less friction/pressure; around 60 fps difference in the previous barrel with same load but I've seen that or more between two "Identical" barrels with non coated bullets. The primers are still very round and no where near flat and I've gotten up to a pretty heavy load so far (43.8gn of h4350)

I use moly products like that. I have moly suspended in solvent carrier that will coat the barrel. Then you burnish the barrel like 150 times in out strokes. Shoot and just keep shooting, no reason to reapply until a few hundred or if you have a bore scope looky. I saw a study were running the coated bullets and barrel together some how counsels out the increased velocity effect on the two. Try to search for the study online. Just type some key words.

I really recommend Sentry Solutions products with moly suspended and KG Industries moly stuff and cleaners. You will not beat their copper cleaner. I contacted a chemical company with moly in the most fine grade possible and a few other interesting products for industry use as well. You can get things a lot cheaper in bulk by buying from them. I think they had Boron Nitride as well.

Have bought both Accurate and IMR 4350 to try out as substitutes but I read they are slightly different (some different opinions on the web on how much different, if at all). I saw the thread on IMR4350 - 6CM so have some comfort on a range for that, but have found nothing here on Accurate in this caliber and Accurate's reload guide gives nothing either, so I was wondering whether anyone has experience with their powder in 6CM. Thanks and thanks for this really helpful thread.

It's very close on the burn rate so it probably will work well. If you can find hybrid 100v (h100v) that works and is what I like to run but haven't been able to find it anymore so I'm back to h4350 for now.

If you have IMR 4350 go with it and don't look back. A guy I know in New Mexico (high desert) shoots that only, with no effect on accuracy changes at all. People get caught up in this Temp. Stability/ Powder phenomena , like this G7BC and ogive thing way to much. If you ask me its just advertisement stuff. Personally, show me real world results or pay me in product or money to get caught up in popularity stuff. Just a hint, shoot only what shoots the best in your gun only!!!

Yeah g7 bc are for losers. And so is temp stabilized powders. Evolution of the understanding of ballistics and our tools is for losers.

Shoot you a group at the same distance each time you go out and write down your environment/weather conditions, and compare it at the end of the year. Better yet, when you can get your hands on some Hodgdon Extreme line powder, shoot it along with it, side by side and measure up the results after a good many sessions. Then please post your results along with pics if you don't mind. Extreme vs. IMR4350, sounds good! Good luck...
