I’ve got a radical firearms 7.62x39 pistol and it will not cycle all the way. It seems to not have enough force from the buffer spring to pick up the next round out of the mag. When it gets stuck I can push the forward assist and it will feed the next round all the way in. I tried going with a 308 spring but now it just won’t cycle at all. I’ve tried 2 different mags.(ASC)(duramag) but neither work. What are my options?

Look at the feed ramp on your barrel and how the ammo feeds onto it. It's probably obstructing the ammo from loading in some way.

Some firearms that would otherwise function well may have problems loading soft-point or hollow-point ammunition. When that is the case, it tends to be related to the feed ramp and/or magazine and the angles/surfaces/etc involved there. Sometimes widening and polishing a feedramp there can resolve that issue.

If you can force it to load the next round -- the question I would have is what does the end of that bullet look like? (EG is it damaging the nose when you force it to chamber?)

If you have one in the chamber and you use the charging handle to chamber the next round, does it still function correctly or do you observe a failure there, as well? Could be that it's not fully cycling/under-gassed.

I think your one the mark about widening and polishing the feed ramp, that sounds like it would fix it. It does still happen when I use just the charging handle so it’s not under-gassed. The bullets come out fine after being forced in. It doesn’t seem to be hanging up on the tip of the bullet rather the whole cartridge coming out of the mag. I was just hopeful for a quick, easy fix not something a gunsmith would have to do. Thanks.

I wouldn't completely rule out an issue with the magazine. I'm assuming the mags you have are caliber specific but you might check the feedlips on them to make sure they're not too far forward. This was a common issue with 556 mags running 300BLK. You shouldn't have feedlips from the point the casing neck begins foward as it can cause the round to bind in the magazine when it is running up the feedramp.

I don't know anything about ar-ak's so I am just posing questions really.

Yea and when I contacted them about it they said don’t put steel cased ammo through it. So that rules about 90% of the ammo available out.
My x39 goes through steel case like a crackhead goes through teeth. The magazine is pretty important and I had some that wouldn’t run to save their life. I ended up with some 10 round mags that run flawlessly. They probably say no steel case cause you will more than likely end up with light primer strikes. I had to modify my firing pin but there are already modified ones for sell out and about. My 7.5 inch barrel will go bang every time I pull the trigger, but I put it together myself. The mags that work for my build are 10 round ar stoner brand. I tried pro mag and they flat out sucked.

Yea, I haven’t had any light primer strikes at all. Every round that chambers goes bang. I’ll try and get my hands on one of those mags thanks.
