Is anyone using Lapua 7mm-08 brass, if so could you give me a reading of your necks with a bullet seated. I just want to compare it to mine.
thanks in advance.
Yes it does. Mines between .3145-.3150 loaded with 162 eldjust loaded some up this weekend
virgin Lapua brass with 150 Scenar = 0.3140
1x fired, resized Lapua brass with 150 Scenar = 0.3130
does that match yours?

Good info guys thanks for sharing. I am working on putting components together while my rifle is being built.Yes it does. Mines between .3145-.3150 loaded with 162 eld
I'm actually using Lapua 308 brass that I run through a 7mm--08 FL sizing die. I thought I was gonna have to turn the necks on the brass, that's why I was asking myself. But it seems I'm good to go for now.Good info guys thanks for sharing. I am working on putting components together while my rifle is being built.
Good to know. I’ll prob just buy a box of the 7mm-08 Lapua brass and go from there but I think yalls numbers will jive with what I’ll be looking at.I'm actually using Lapua 308 brass that I run through a 7mm--08 FL sizing die. No neck turning or anything? Trimming?I found the Lapua 308 brass is about 20-25.00 cheaper per 100 piece box than the 7mm-08 Lapua brass and all you have to do is run it though a FL sizing die.
RE 7mm loads
I have a custom LH Remington 700 hunting rifle with McMillian, and Jewell. It has a, lija 24 inch barrell with a 1N 10 twist
Here is 5 shots out of a cold barrell at 200 yards. Top right is first shot.
should I be happy with this group?
My son did the reloads as he shots in 600/1000 yard match.
he has other loads to try but what are the thoughts here
Forgot to add that it is using 168 bergers and we are trying 140 Berger BLD also
Yes it is a 1n10 ias I had it nade with that and a Lija barrel
Thanks
InterestingTook my 7/08 ackley out to start burning thru some 180s. 2 shots at each charge weight. Neck at .3185 so I can size 308 with no turning.
26" tube
1/9 twist
H4350
180gr eldm
Non ffed LC LR 11 brass
44.0 2595 2582

44.4 2619 2600
44.6 2617 2619
44.8 2615 2612

I always wondered how fast 7-08 was with 180’s
Still looking for best suggested loads;

1-10 twist
Thanks guys
Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag
I am debating between a 6.5 284 and a 7mm Rem Mag. Ballistically, the 7mm has got my eye, but I have been warned about the recoil. How do these loads feel. I will be firing about 50 rounds per competition.
Thanks
168 would probably be the heaviest. My Tikka is 9.5 twist and can do well with up to 175's.How heavy of bullets can you shoot through that twist.
Very limited testing but yes.Anyone tried the Berger 190 hybrids yet in a 7mm mag?
I have 2 Fierce rifles a 6.5 Creedmoore that loves 143g Hornady ELD-X factory ammo. It’s probably the most accurate gun I have ever owned. Just got a 7mm Rem Mag in a Furry as well. With the current ammo shortage I haven’t found anything it really likes yet.If you have a balanced rifle the recoil can be less than a .308 with the 7 mag. My Fierce Edge is crazy comfertable to shoot with anything from 150 to 175s. It has less felt recoil than my .308 Browning Hells canyon had. The rifle makes the difference; lesson learned from Savage Axis 30-06... 180gn x 23 rds = ticked off shoulder.
I would highly recommend learning to reload your own ammo. That 7mm RemMag will REALLY shine with handloads. I've been shooting and hunting the 7mm RemMag for almost 20 years, and it wasn't until I started handloading for it about 10 years ago, that things really hit a new level with all of my rifles. Get you a 1:8 twist barrel for the 7mm-08, and try some Berger 195 EOL's... Folks think I'm crazy, because I have been shooting Berger 210 and 215's for my .308 Win for nearly 10 years. The muzzle velocity isn't very fast, but the amount of energy and drift it maintains is unparalleled downrange. The numbers don't lie.Been experimenting with 7-08 loads in a Rem 700 with a 24" Criterion Remage 1~9 twist. It seems to like about 40.5 Gr Varget & 162 ELDXs. That load bumps into 2700FPS & shot extremely well to 500 Yds. still Playing with it. Started seeing pressure signs @ 41 Gr
I went thru the last of my ELDXs but have some 162 AMXs on the way.
Wanting to try them in my 7Rem Mag with Criterion Remage 1~8
I have several powders to try gonna start with MagPro ...Just because I have a lot of it ...
I would have gotten a 1~8 708 if it had been available in a Remage Pre-fit. I was told that 1~9 was the fastest they made (that was available now)Get you a 1:8 twist barrel for the 7mm-08, and try some Berger 195 EOL's... One day I will build another 7mm-08 with a 20" 1:8 twist heavy barrel just to shoot the 175-195gr bullets.
Check with Preferred Barrel Blanks. I ordered a Remage barrel 1-8 twist with R5 rifling for a new 7mm Rem Mag build. Expect a Looooong wait if you ever go that route.I would have gotten a 1~8 708 if it had been available in a Remage Pre-fit. I was told that 1~9 was the fastest they made (that was available now)
I do reload. Out of curiosity what’s your favorite Elk bullet?I would highly recommend learning to reload your own ammo. That 7mm RemMag will REALLY shine with handloads. We don't have Elk in Alabama, but if I had to choose one based on what I know, I'd recommend the Berger 195 EOL... But you will need a 1:8 twist to stabilize it.I do reload. Out of curiosity what’s your favorite Elk bullet?
So this is the route I went. I actually have an 18" proof 1:8 twist chambered in 7/08 and planning on running the 175's. Would be interested in any information you have. Plan on working up a load soon and trying to decide on the right powder. I have plenty of Varget and H4350. I have 8lbs of IMR4895 as well but not sure if that's gonna work.
