700 PSS stock on a SPS rifle?

I am selling my 700 PSS .308 stock and a buddy is asking if it will fit his SPS rifle, my gun originally came with a 26" barrel an dhis is a 20", I do recall someone mentioning this stock is not compatible.
Any expert who would clear this up is appreciated.

it will fit if they are both short action and have the same bottom metal

You may have some clearance issues with the safety on the SPS. I've seen others have this problem. I borrowed an HS off a 700VS for my SPS Varmint. It fit, but the safety wouldn't fully engage. It proved I had an accuracy issue with my SPS stock, so I returned it without worrying about it. I have read that it requires very little filing to get it to fit. Otherwise all else should fit.

I pulled the H&S stock off of my PSS when I switched to a McMillan. The H&S went on my SPS Tactical with no problems. In fact it shoots sub moa with the H&S.

Does the PSS stock come in different lengths? say for a 20" barrel as opposed to the 24 or 26? it seems odd.
