Accuracy International Picture Thread

Field report on the mag spring stretching. 40 rounds, no issues, fed like a champ. Never thought to do a hard mag seating test, to cold. Transported mags rounds up, no problems. It does take more effort to load the mags, but it's not thumb buster significant. The AI journey continues...

Badfinger, thanks again for the suggestion.

I looked at the MHSA site. The 49 in-lb wrench is for the barrel screw. How about the barrel? Just hand tighten it?

Right, screw on barrel hand tight to the action threads, then take the torque wrench and use it to tighten down the “quic-lock” barrel screw. Done. There are also reports on folks just using a 4mm hex wrench torqued down to “hand tight” and having repeatable results.

Note: I do not have an AI (God willing soon though). This is exactly how I saw a member switch barrels (from a .308 to a 6XC I think). I think his zero (which was repeatable) was about .5 Mil off. You should only need barrel flats/wrench if the barrel is really stuck on for some reason. Others with more first hand experience may have more to add.

Oh and any technical question can be answered by EO are MHSA, I’ve had sellar customer service from Mike at MHSA so far and haven’t spent a penny with them yet. I have heard Jason at EO has excellent service as well.

I moved my whole schedule around so I could go pick up my AT today instead of Thursday. I just unboxed it about an hour ago and will try to give my first impressions out of the box (obviously haven't shot it yet so take it with many grains of salt).

I ordered my AT with the competition trigger already installed in it by Mile High. This is one I don't need range time to tell you, it's the best trigger I've personally ever felt.

I have a Manners EHF1A stock in one of my customs. Not to disrespect Manners but the difference between the AI folder and Manners folder as far as security is night and day. I read an article awhile back about AI rifles and in it, the guy described the folding hinge as being like the door to a bank vault. That is certainly how mine feels and I won't take it for granted given how my other folders feel.

The pistol grip of the AI fits my hand very well. I will be installing my @samb300 thumbshelf on Thursday since I'm tired enough today and tomorrow that I'd screw something up.

I loaded one of the magazines with some rounds and fed through them all. There's a sound like an airlock when the bolt brings the round into the chamber. The ease of loading the AW magazine and the feeding actually left me with a stupid grin on my face.

All in all, it pretty much blows every other rifle I have out of the water including my customs.

Agreed. I’ve owned and shot a ton of customs, and they’ve came and gone. Once I got my AT I realized there’s no going back. Only way I’d get rid of my AI would be for another AI lol. They instil a pretty high degree of confidence.

Wait till you shoot it.

Here’s how my first range trip with mine went. Bore sighted with my eyes looking down bore. First round 2” low and 3/4” left. I over adjusted scope. Fired 3 rd group group that was 4” high and 2” right. Group was about 3/4 moa. Adjusted scope. Fired 3 rd group that was 1” high and about 1” right. Group was about 1.25 moa.

At this point I was a bit concerned. I took a break. My wife shot a couple 3 rd groups. Both low. The first about 1.5 moa the second was sub moa with 2 rds touching.

I cleared my head and sat back at the bench and fired a 5 rd 1 hole group that’s right at 1/2 moa and I think I may have pulled a shot.

The AI Koolaid is sweet. Now when I screw up I can’t blame the rifle.

Considering adding the 338 Lapua to my collection. With the AI AXMC I know I'll need the bolt, magazine and barrel. As an add on, does the 338 Lapua magazine and bolt support the 338 and 300 Norma magnums - would only then need barrels for the Norma Magnums.

Installed the @samb300 thumbrest. I followed along with the video he made and had it installed within 5 minutes. It's very ergonomic and my thumb just kind of falls right to it after closing the bolt. I appreciate that there aren't any raised edges that plastics tend to have. All in all I think it was a good buy.

Has anybody been able to cerakote color match the AI sage green?
Long Rifles Inc did a really good job matching sage green on my barrel and RRS forend plate.

All in good fun, with a hint of truth. Not hatin' on the Rem 700/AI chassis combo. I have two myself. I also have an AXMC. but I do get mildly irritated when someone, mainly in a for sale listing, refers to a Rem 700 as an AI because its in a chassis. Some give no hint anywhere in the listing that the rifle is not fully AI. Don't deceive. Buy what you want. Buy what you can afford. Get proficient with it, and be proud of that.

I do get and agree with what you’re saying about people being misleading when selling guns, very frustrating. I however do not have that issue because I don’t not sell guns, only buy em and build em ! ?

Sam, did LRI spin up that barrel?

Yup! They did a 6.5x47L with a Bartlein blank I had won off a prize table. It's not too hard with 6.5x47L, but it's a shooter nonetheless!

I will keep using LRI, they do good work and they do it in their quoted timeframe.

I guess I missed the fine print on strictly all AI only... I just saw an opportunity to join in on some gun porn. My apologies on disgracing Your fine weapons thread with my $5000 Prius build, it won’t happen again-

Ignore the douchery, nowhere in the title or original post does if restrict what can be posted to only full AI rifles. There's plenty of other customs in AI chassis and even factory 700's in chassis that have already been posted in this thread. The way I see it any AI product is game.

It's a regular Bartlein 5R cut rifled barrel.

I'm going to try a 4-groove 6mm barrel for my next AI barrel from Bartlein. It's hard not to use them, considering they're made less than an hour from my house

My 14 AT came with a 20" .308 and it's amazing and I bought a 5R cut bartlein 260 Remington barrel on sale from Mile High and it's the most accurate I've had todate.

Guess which shot was number 10

God I love these rifles.(y)

Does anybody shoot their other rifles after purchasing an AI? I find my custom sitting in the safe, scopeless, and probably not coming out anytime soon...View attachment 6950648
Taking a wild guess here ,you really really really enjoy your AX....? Lol . I know the feeling mine Ax is 16.5" in 6.5 creed and its so compact when folded , I store it in a London Bridge Tac backpack .

Dear all,

I just ordered a AI AX50 (in black) here in Germany. There are really few people in Germany with such rifles so help is rather limited here (the only official seller in Germany suggests to use the original AI mountings. Are there any better mountings on the market? I have absolutely no idea about mountings...). I was wondering if one of you could help me with finding the right mounting for ranges from 100m to max300m with a Schmidt und Bender PM2 5-25x56.

I am sorry if this is the wrong thread but I was hoping that, due to the pictures, there are some owners here as well. Let me know if I should switch to another thread.

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome! Many thanks in advance!

Philipp

Just ordered an AIAT (20”, .308, ODG, folding) a few minutes ago from MHSA! Should ship Monday, hopefully I’ll have it in hand sometime later next week. Extremely excited!

Just need to buy stuff for it now (ARC rings, Atlas CAL, RO sling, samb300 spigot, PVA Jet Blast, and a couple thousand rounds...). I definitely need a Magnetospeed as well.

Question:
I’ll purchase some FGMM 168/175 grain for the initial sight in and accuracy confirmation. I want to use the Hornady 178 ELD-M bullets as my primary loading. Any known recipies for this bullet in y’all’s factory AT barrel? Already have 200 cases of Lapua brass.
