Hanging out with @Lowlight and @CR2 Dude in Cameo back in March. Amazing place to shoot with excellent blokes.

That’s the one true caliber in the one true color. 308.

Yep, been running matches since March with it. I was bouncing between 6.5cm and 308 all year but in 2024 I’m just going to run 175gr 308.

2024 Steel Safari and Team Safari though will be done with 6.5CM and NF ELR will be 300PRC.

In 2025 I’ll jump over to 6.5cm.

I love this rifle.
Excellent. I've been thinking about building another short action caliber match gun, but my axsr always looks at me like I got caught with a side chick. 🤣 I've got the 308 bolt body and mag, so maybe I'll just spin up a 6.5 barrel.

Anyone?

Found a few threads indicating you can debond the chassis rear?
Only if it is an AT AICS chassis that looks like this will the hinge work on the AT rifle because the hinge is bolted and bonded to the chassis.

Earlier AICS like this are pinned with 8mm pins and bonded together and will not “bolt on” the AT rifle chassis.

The front skins absolutely will not fit, however the butt skins are a direct bolt on to the hinged AT butt skeleton because the dimensions of the L shaped skeleton have never changed on any folding AI rifle with a thumbhole.

WTF happened to all the thumb rests by AO?

And I’m itching for a new barrel for my AT. The 308 puckered out after 800 and seeing guys make hits with the 6.5s and 6’s easily and at longer range made me say well damnView attachment 8282292

What bullet were you shooting? I’ve taken my 308 barrel to 1100 at sea level. Wind calls get challenging at that range and it’s not as easy as 7-800, but it’s still doable. I get what you’re saying about it being frustrating that a 6.5/6mm or another cartridge with more horsepower was getting hits easier, but isn’t that sometimes the point? I bought my 308 barrel so I could learn reading and shooting in wind at long range, but at a distance that I could easily access. I’d have to go to 3x the distance with my 300NM.

This was with a 24” barrel in my AXSR using 175 FGMM.

168s

I’m gonna try some 178ELDX next, but if I start playing in local matches ill
Probably get a 6.5 creed barrel.

Well I had a moment of weakness this weekend and bought another AI to go along with my AXMC. Been wanting a thumbhole stock AI for years and I was eying an AW but I haven’t been able to locate a 308 green stock variant in the condition that I wanted. I was window shopping Eurooptic and placed some items in my cart. Lo and behold two days later I get an email. We exchange an email or two and a phone call later I got pretty much an entire AT setup at what I thought was a very good price. Eurooptic is so great to work with as is Mile High. Shout out to Micheal at Eurooptic if he reads this. Excited to get this build out together and hopefully I get to shoot it next week. Pictures to follow once I get everything in. The thumbhole skins i had already purchased a few years ago from UKsporting just in case I ever got an AT. I figured I could always sell them if it didn’t work out.

Now you’ve become a true AI owner. The gods of thumbhole green AI’s are pleased with you on this day

If you’re doing local matches that aren’t elr or caliber restricted, best to do a hot 6mm unless you want to do a lot of factory ammo. Either way, I hear ya. 308 is like a mortar.
I was very suprised with a 6mmBR so the jury is still out. But then I gotta dig around with mag kits.

Who knows. I may cheat on my AI with an Impact action after fondling one today.

I have everything to load both. Same dies and all. I’ve loaded for both and the 260 trumps the 6.5 in my opinion. May have sac or Bugholes spin up a 260
Just get a prefit?

You neck down the 308 brass? I’m getting my feet into the reloading camp and having a 308 makes sense since I can buy one set of brass for both and just neck down and resize for 260

Right. It comes down to do I get a take off from here or order a 260 barrel. I have the winter to decide or find one in the px. The 260 will trump the 6.5 in velocity. Which is what has me leaning that way

I run straight Lapua 260 or 6.5 brass. Have a bunch of either. Fire it, neck size with a Lee collet die, body side when needed with Redding.

See if you moved to a warmer climate you could shoot in the winter and not fight any white powder or bitter cold lol and get a barrel sooner

smdh all that AI and it gets neglected cuz of a little cold and snow
The problem is I have a AT with green thumbholes in 308. That gun is a “let’s shoot some fucking deer, fuck the cold” type weapon

Then the ATX. Which is more of a “I want to be a 6.5 CM” “I don’t like the cold” “I dabbled with being a 308 in college” type gun.

Interesting. Do tell more

Well its a 2 lug 90 degree action, which I always assume the tradeoff is gonna be a light slick smooth bolt, but this thing has this godawful hitch on close, and even with this 50/50 cock setup, I dont find it exceptionally light. Its the most recent action I bought, and I cant say Id take it over anything else in the safe being - Mausingfield, Nucleus, Archimedes, Coup de Grace, Deadline 2, Badger M2013, Zeus, Kelbly Atlas Tac, and the AI of course. The way everyone on SH sucks em off I thought I was gonna be blown away.

Unless you must have the ability to buy 10000 used prefits from the PX, I dont see the point.

Well I guess I finally get to post in here. Followed some advice I'd seen from other members and sold off my AX and AT chassis for a pre-14 AX in 6.5 cm here on the Hide. This will be my hunting setup and hopefully PRS setup in 2024.

I'm going to slum it up for a little while with my old school NXS 3.5-15 with NP-R2 reticle while I figure out a new optic.

Anyone have any pictures of an AX wearing an NX8? Particularly the 2.5-20.

I've been shooting a 260 gasser since '17 and went 260 for my AXSA. Better neck angle, better velocity, can form from 308 brass if needed (I use Lapua and Norma 260 brass), I've never run into a situation when I needed to load longer and always felt 6.5 was flavor of the day.

That one was for sure. That was a 16" Christensen Ridgeline in an AX, and the one sitting in the AT was a Bergara HMR.

I feel like a little kid waiting on Christmas as this thing makes its way to Texas.

On the weekend just gone down here in Australia we had our club/state Finale for Precision Rifle Queensland.

After a while away from PRS type shooting competitions since before 2020 I set myself a goal for a Top 10 finish for the season. I achieved just that, coming in at 10th with my AT-X in 6 Creedmoor.

Consistency in shooting is paying off. Hopefully next year I can improve that result.
