Re: AI bolt pics
Nice...... the Fat Medic from LA. started the ball rolling on the correct answer and the boys from across the pond and the land down under finished it off.
here's the tour of the AI AT ( Bad pick, but the better stuff is coming in teh summer)
1) safety ala AE yet years ahead of it. You have either safe or fire with the ability to manipulate the bolt. Major diffrence is the safty lever itself. AE has a lever while this one has a knurled roll over.
Also, as stated, the bolt knob itself is larger than the AE and AW we know today.
2) Iron sights. This model was also designed with iron sights in mind. You can see the reciever is marked for adjustment of the rear sight and teh muzzle is turned down to accept the front sight. Hey Stacey, you find me a set of sights yet?
3) Details. They pay attention! Notice how the action is curved to match the contour of the safety shroud. While teh AE is a diffrent beast notice how it's shroud is not matched by the tube reciever.
4) The best part... the action. While mostly the same action of the AW (short action). the MAJOR diffrence is teh fact that this rifle is a 6 lug bolt head as opposed to 3 lug. Yes.. you read right, this short action .308 uses a 6 lug bolt head.... OVERKILL AI style! And all this in FACTORY configuartion. The only serial # missing is the bolt shroud, which at the time did not get serial #'ed otherwise thi sis a #'s matching gun!
5) the trigger. Same trigger as the AW although AI offerered a Target trigger at the time. Stacey, you find me an original yet?? LOL seriously.... get on that man, it's been 4 years!
Extra Credit Question:
What information is missing on teh rifle?
And for fun, here's what a .338 bolt head looks like next to the .50
