AI chassis system for my .300WM project. Question

My .300WM is coming along and I've fallen in lust with the AICS chassis systems. The current HS stock fits me "okay" but I've never really warmed up to it. That... And the AISC 1.5 is cool as hell! There, got that out of the way.

Anywho... I've heard from a few that it's a love / hate relationship. It's either the best stock you've EVER had, or you'd not bat an eye to pitch it in the drink. I'm not so concerned with any additional weight unless AI makes these out of lead.

Seem like a win-win to me... Rigid platform for a big boomer and a DBM thrown in for kicks. But maybe I'm all wrong on this...

For those of you in the know... What say ye?

Great for prone, not suited well for positional shooting, which I doubt you'll do much of with a 300WM. I have owned many AI rifles and AICS stocked rifles, they are a solid platform, the fact you get a drop-in chassis that doesn't require bottom metal, inletting, is barrel channel tolerant .....its got its pluses.

The down side, it is heavy and has a very non-traditional feel, the only way you can be sure if you will like it is to lay with one for a while. The plus is, if you don't like it the resale is always strong with the AICS.

I'd love to give one a personal inspection. However, I'm pretty dang sure there's none within a few hundred miles of me. Do you liken the feel more to an AR over a bolt gun? Kind of an apples to oranges comparison but would it be that extreme?

Loved mine. I had mine done by GAP in an AICS 1.5 (just to go with my other AIAWs). Just recently sold mine. You are correct on all of those reasons.

I have a rem 700 in 308 with the 2.0 chassis (just as TONS of shooters on here do..) and I dont get how people could hate this... It is pretty heavy, but the plus side is less felt recoil with your 300 winmag. The mags work like a dream and are built tough enough to be a small weapon also. I like the ergonomics of it personally, and it has a nice wide, flat forearm to rest on things if you arnt using the bi-pod.

Love mine as well, it is different to get used to and some never will. But those who like them have a hard time shooting anything else. I have had my personal comp rifle in one for about 5 years and have never found anything that suited me better. Try to get your hands on one, if you can't and buy one and don't like it the resale value will be there.

Thanks much for the replies!! I can do all the research in the universe, but it's with the end users that the answers can usually be found.

I'm about "tipped" off the fence and almost offically in the market. I've got to finish my spring cleaning in the boom room and see what funds are available after a few sales.

Now the question is... How many AR's does one REALLY have to have?

I had a 300wm with an AICS 1.5. The recoil was tame. I shot a 2 day f class match with it, 66 rounds per day. I was not sore at all.

Like everyone here said, you love it or hate it, not much in between. I am one of the few around here who would fall in the middle. A McCree will feel much more like an AR. The AICS is neither AR nor bolt gun feeling.

The answer to that is: zero. If you are counting 308 caliber AR's Id be kind and say the answer is "one" ;D

You should look into a McRees Chassis. Scott McRee is an awesome guy to deal with and his chassis is in my opinion better. You can get a folding chassis for the price of an AI rigid and they shoot better.

Build is on a budget and I got the scope for free from a buddy. I have a weaver grand slam tactical trying to decide if I keep it or send it back and put the money towards a razor hd. Which will be my next scope. After that blueprint the action and a new barrel.

i own a McRees chassis as well and know that in side by side testing at fort benning they out shot the AI chassis hands down but its all personal preference the McRees is more affordable and scott is top notch in customer service and they are american made one chassis at a time and inspected every chassis not an assembly line product quality is obvious the first time you hold one thats why i bought mine like i said hold one and then decide whatever you choose must fit you and your budget and personal preferance AI is a good product and i have shot one but it just didnt fit me check out whatever you buy hands on first and you wont be sorry good luck with your build

Budget build or not, how do you back up your statement that they shoot better?

Whitetrashmo already did that before I could, but side by side comprisons at fort benning have proved the mcrees more accurate.
