American Ammunition Company 77gr SMK HPBT

I also snagged a couple boxes. Might try them later this week at 100y out of a bolt.

Not as bad as yours, but lots of little dents.

are these the sierra or new production? Looking at the pics it seems that the OAL are all over the place.
These are the 77 OTM with the aac bullet.

OAL for a box of 20 were as follows.

1x 2.227
2x 2.232
1x 2.234
3x 2.236
4x 2.238
7x 2.239
2x 2.241

Also most had a pretty good mark on the rim.

I couldn't help myself. I just ordered 1000 rounds of it. Even if it sucks its not bad priced range ammo.

Testing of a LaRue MGU and Geissele upper with the AAC 77gr OTM thanks to a buddy. Neither upper had a bipod, so I used a front bag and small rear squeeze bag.

The LT upper was brand new, so it may group better after a few more rds and a good cleaning. I started in the upper left getting the optic zero’d and then fired groups, adjusting 0.3mil right between the first group and the remaining 2.

The G upper was quite surprising. I shot the middle group, then the two on the ends. I adjusted my hold technique after the middle group and each subsequent group had 4 very close together. It impressed me; as I don’t use a LPVO often. I think that running a different magazine or tweaking the gas tube could help the upper, but the ammo shot very respectable imo.

If I remember right IMI used to be around the .50 cent mark, maybe .70cent. Hope it goes back down.
Yeah there was a time where it wasn’t too expensive but that i feel like was pre covid and finding it on sale here and there. All i want is healthy competition so it drives the prices down. Right now what AAC is doing for new ammo this day in age even with the few issues with QC is unheard of. Even when i had my mk12 mod 1 and southwest ammunition was still in business it was 50-60c a round for remanufactured match ammo much less new.

Just got home and measured the above target.

Biggest 77AAC OTM group was .894-.224=.670

Smallest 77AAC OTM group was
.552-.224=.328

I only shot what you see today. Cold clean bore was substantially off for the Hornady load. The AAC load seemed to start settling down after the first 10 shots.

Either way, it was better than expected.

Shot 10 out of my MK12 with Douglas 18" barrel and AEM 5 can
Second row is my reloads 77 gr Sierra hpbt using Ramshot TAC 26 gr 2.25 oal
Also did some out of the 15.1" FN barrel with AEM 5 third row
Might up my load a little to see if 2800-2850 is doable

What chrono were you using? That’s very fast velocity for an 18”.

double digit SD's suck.....its in same family as factory M193 fodder

I've seen off shelf norma shoot single digit SD's for same/less $$$

I had “ok” results with the Norma offerings. The 69gr shot better than the 77’s iirc, but neither shot tighter groups than the AAC ammo. I never chrono’d those loads as the precision didn’t warrant further testing in my barrels.

I’ve got 360rds of their 6creed ammo left. It never shot nearly as good as the Prime, and seemed to copper up my barrel real fast. Not sure if it’s their jacket or what, but something seemed off.

Hey Gents, just another guy throwing my experience here- shot 100 rounds of the new AAC 77gr myself, and wasn't impressed.

For Context, running a 14.5 suppressed (BCM/Aero, the Reddit special), nothing fancy. Never had any issues shooting sub-MOA with Black Hills/IMI Razorcore and thought I'd give the AAC a try, especially at a lower entry price.

First box held roughly MOA, no major issue.
Box 2 - 3 -Blown Primers, 2 dented rounds not fired
Box 3 - 5 - Blown Primers
Box 4 - 3 - Blown Primers, 1 dented round not fired
Box 5 (had spotter shoot) - 3 blown primers, shot out of his Criterion 18" Radian Build

All bought at the same time, so maybe a bad batch? Not worth the PP IMO to try again

I even shot other types of ammo throughout the day to ensure it wasn't a system issue, occurrence did not repeat with anything from white box 55gr to IMI 77s.

just my .02

Also if anyone has a criterion 18" core in .223 wylde... my DMs remain open....

Having not shot more than 40 rounds (and no chono on any of it), it seems like these loads are on the hotter side even for 556 pressures. I did not have any issues in my 14.5" Rainier barrel though and all was sub MOA.

I am waiting until they have the TMK version available to get an idea of which shoots better for me
